Slow on the uptake?

Have been feeling pretty good but this last week had no energy (Dr. said it was normal). Yesterday dh mentioned that I've seemed "a bit slow on the uptake" for the last couple of weeks -- like things take longer to process in my mind, and sometimes, even though I know what I want to say, my words just don't come out right, lol, and...

I've noticed that I still lose my balance at times (out of the blue) when walking (have been off pain meds for several days now). And frankly, I miss a lot of what's said, that, or it's just not registering -- I'm not meaning to be insensitive or not realize the importance of what others around me are saying, it's just kinda not registering at times or something.

I've been having headaches everyday (not like me at all), a dry mouth without being thirsty, plus freezing to death on-and-off the last couple of days, and yesterday, thinking some sun heat and a float in the pool would feel good, I got everything all prepared out there (or rather, my dh did)...then I stuck my toe in the water and decided it was too cold and pouted (most dramatically) all the way back inside the house. Today I actually made it into the pool but I got "stuck" on the floaty raft when it was time to get off (on my stomach) and couldn't get all the way off since my stomach hurt. I'm glad no one saw me because I'm sure I looked pathetic, half on half off, stuck on a raft and actually balling my eyes out over it, lol.

Sorry this is so long...just wanted to pass things by you for your thoughts or input. Thanks so much.

Slow on the uptake?

I've heard that general anesthesia can do things to your brain for a couple of months after surgery. In some cases, it isn't safe for you to drive because your brain isn't working right. However, rather than just assume nothing else is going on, maybe you should have another chat with the doctor, and list ALL the symptoms, rather than just tell him/her that you are tired. The headaches would worry me the most. Another idea: go to a chiropractor. If your neck is out of whack, it could be doing these things to you. Even depression can cause headaches and tiredness. So you really need to talk to a doctor who might recognize that you might have something else going on. I am not an expert. I'm just saying you should talk to one. In my opinion.

Slow on the uptake?

Thank you for the input and good advice, TooLate!
I hope it doesn't last a couple of months, lol...and I start driving for a couple of hours per day today and really don't feel mentally quick enough to do it comfortably...and it's quite unusual for me to be "dramatic" over anything, no less such minor things, lol.
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

Slow on the Uptake

Thank you so much for your thread... I had my surgery 4/12/2004 TVH/BSO. I now feel I am not alone. I had all the some feelings and to read your thread helped me. I run an appraisal company just my husband an myself and one trainee. Everday he waits for me to show up in the office and work. I am doing the best I can I have allready done too much around the house moping floors, laundry, taking out the trash etc.. If my mind would work and my pain be gone I would be in the office. My mind is always foggy and I am dizzy. My family is use to THE SUPERMOM!! I am too, I just can'nt find her right now. It has only been three weeks. I tell them just think of it as my post maternity leave I never got... LOL LOL.. Thanks again!

Slow on the uptake?

KimberlyC, I'm so glad for your response -- now knowing someone has felt these same things makes me not feel so alone either. Thank you so much!! (Hey, we're castle-date sisters, lol!) Your word "foggy" is a great description. And I like that -- the "leave" ya never got, lol.

My husband and I used to run a business together, and I sat here just now thinking about what that would be like right now during this recovery period...I'm sure I'd be being "strongly encouraged" to get back to work too early, too, lol!

Thanks again...and I sure hope this fog lifts quickly and our old selves are found again...I'd even settle for a new (improved) self!LOL

Slow on the uptake?

Hi,

I too have a wooly brain and memory. Looking back at hospital info pack that I receive, it says that the effects of anaesthesia can last for up to 6 months. (6 months!!!!!) I cant live like this for 6 months. I cant keep a thought in my head. I cant even get my kids names right, what hope have I got? I was bad even before surgery.

Was in the car the other day, with my 2 DDs in back, and friend in passenger seat, and one of them was whining, I couldnt remember their name, so I just said, shut up you, whoever you are!! My friend laughed, and my DD was most indignant!
