TRAM flap and TAH

Anyone out there have a TAH/LSO after a tramflap? Just wondering where they made the incision and how was your recovery compared to the tram?

Thanks.....

TRAM flap and TAH

Hi btdt,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!!

While I'm sorry that you may be facing surgery, I am glad that you found HS and posted to introduce yourself. I am not sure what a TRAM flap is. If you can give me more information, I might be able to refer you to some previous posts, at least until someone with personal experience sees your post and replies.

I'm not sure if you are scheduled for surgery yet, but if you are, please be sure to read the Pre-Op Hints and the Post-Op Hints. They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

Also, don’t forget to go back into your control panel and add your surgery date to your profile so you'll be on the calendar and will receive a special greeting from Hyster Sisters.

I hope you'll continue to read and to post any questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

TRAM flap and TAH

Thanks for your reply. I am just getting a TAH/possible BSO scheduled and will post pronto with the date.

A TRAM flap is a type of breast reconstruction done at the time of a mastectomy. I had a small stage 1 breast cancer removed 5 years ago and due to the location of it, I couldn't just do a lumpectomy.

TRAM stands for Trans Rectus Abdominus Muscle. A piece of the large ab muscle and some fat is made into a breast and rerouted or tunneled from the ab to the missing breast. I have a hip to hip scar (it's pretty thin and light) and am seeing a plastic surgeon tomorrow who will make the initial incision for my TAH. The TRAM flap has a separate, tentitive blood supply so they have to know just where to cut.

I've searched the posts, but any info I've found on this situation is several years old and not too specific. It's just kind of a special situation, although trams are quite common.

Cheers

TRAM flap and TAH

Hi btdt

Thanks for explaining - I have heard of the procedure, but did not remember what it was called.

I did a search here on the term tram-flap and found the following threads:

http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sea...der=descending

Although aufonddetoi ended up being able to have a vaginal hyst, instead of abdominal, biglittleone just had surgery a couple of days ago, and is probably not home yet.

I hope you'll hear from someone who has had the procedure and can give you some personal experience.
