Birth Control Pills after Ovaries are out?

Well, I'm a little over a week and a half out from my supposed surgical date (I say supposed, because the jury is still out on whether I really want this doc to to do the surgery with her attitude, or not). And, guess what?

In the middle of my pack of BC pills, I'm having a light period. Now, with the doctor's ok, I've been skipping placebos since January and this has kept the endometrioma growth in check. Even shrank it a little, but not much. But now I'm bleeding again. I can chalk it up to stress as I have an alimony hearing just a few days before surgery, but...

I know that with endo, having both ovaries out is the safest way to go. Yes, I'm only 31. My main concern now is quality of life. I'll spend all my time and money (ha!) on my nieces and nephews, instead of on doctors, bowel preps, and hospital stays.

So, here's my question: The doctor says that, instead of HRTs, I can just continue the BC pills after the hyst with both ovaries out. Has anyone ever heard of doing this? And, in light of the breakthrough bleeding I'm having, does this even sound wise? I suppose we can try it and see and switch to something else later, if need be.

As a side note, whether or not I fire this doc (YOU FIYAHED!), I've found another doctor who is an excellent surgeon, doesn't do obstetrics, and specializes in menopausal issues.

It's hard to find docs who just do GYN. If she/he is an excellent surgeon and you have a good rapport with him/her, I would go there. Get a second opinion from this doc on the BC pills. If the dose is really low , it MIGHT be ok with endo. But I think there are more choices than simply BC pills for helping young endo patients who have had ovaries removed.

I would rather see you find out now from other docs about the BC approach rather than trying and seeing what happens. I think it's better to avoid flaring any endo implants that possibly may be lurking somewhere. Just my humble opnion...

If I am not mistaken, BCPs contain a higher dose of hormones than HRT. The purpose of this dose is to suppress ovulation. If you are not going to have ovaries, then I don't see the point.

I asked my Dr about this!......

I asked my Dr what was the difference between BCP and HRT and he said the lowest dose of BCP is THIRTY times higher than HRT. So, not being one against HRT if you need it, I don't see the point of over doing HRT by thirty times by *just* using BCP. I may be out of the loop, but I personally have never heard of or known anyone using BCP for HRT. I would check into that before just doing it. Puppet
