Isn't it funny or almost amazing at the differences we women experience in out recovery trip...some are ready to go the next day some dont want to face it until months......

Bodies can heal differently. Some surgeries are also more extensive than others. Typically the initial recovery period is about 6-8 weeks - it can often take many months to be completely healed. It is always recommended to follow your own doctor 's post-op instructions.

It is very funny, except I wish I could be a little or alot more on the brave side.
I think I'm the most "chickenest" women on this site.
One minute I'm brave and have it all under control and ready to give support to others the next I'm a miserable sight of tears.
Tonight I'm thinking I can handle it. Let's hope I can hold this thought until my visit to the castle.
I have cancelled once before. Hoping I won't do it again. At least this time I have an early appt. for surgery. I couldn't bear to wait all day. Last time my surgery time was for three in the afternoon.
I can imagine that it must be more funny for those of you that have had it done.
Being experienced you can now say waiting and imagine what will happen is the hardest part!
I'm hoping to have that experience.

Why are you havig a hysterectomy? Just try to put your fears behind you and do it for your health. I am very, very chicken, scared to death of drugs and the way they can make you feel. I went thru with my surgery after cancelling once before. I was suppose to have a tah, about 3 yrs ago for cervical dysplasia, uterine prolapse. then about 4 wks ago I had my annual and my pap came back abnormal , so my doc ordered a colposcopy, needless to say my biopsy came back showing stage 1 cervical cancer. VERY SCARY. It was right at the point of becoming evasive, and I had my hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. I am doing pretty good I have good days and bad days. the good out weighing the bad. So Go for it??? I promise You will be ok, I will keep u in my prayers....

Dragonfly - I was also diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was in situ, but had come very close to moving further on. I also hate medical procedures and was convinced I would not wake up from the surgery. I think when the operation is a life-saving necessity, you just pull yourself together and deal with it. The thought of what could happen if you don't have the surgery is scarier. I think if this had been an operation for a better quality of life for me, I may not have had it, I am SO WIMPY. Having done it, though, the waiting was definitely worse than the surgery and recovery so far. Cancer is gone and I now have the benefit of NO MORE PERIODS!!!!
Lee - it will be fine. I was just like you, brave one minute and breaking down the next. The morning of surgery I was ok.
As far as different recovery rates, I think it just depends on age and procedure. I was driving (out of necessity) at 2 weeks and it went ok but I'd rather sit/lie around all day and end up in bed watching TV at 7 pm every night with a percocet.
