URGENT Bowel prep question

I go in tomorrow for a TAH with removal of 1 ovary. My question is my doctor said that I did not need a bowl prep. Has anyone gone through this surgery with out one? I am on clear liquids but it still concerns me since I have read alot about bowel preps. I just do not want to chance having the surgery cancelled. Please help.

I did not have any bowel prep. Just nothing by mouth after midnite. (no liquid diet before either) I didn't have any problems! (it would have been on your Dr.s orders if he/she thought you'd need one! Don't worry!
I had Ice Chips until I passed gas post op...seemed like days but I think it was more like 2 days, then liquid diet unit BM.....Do you think I was alittle cranky? Give me surgery but don't take my food away!

I also am going in tomorrow not sure yet if it will be a TVH or TAH. My doctor has me doing an enima tonight. That is all my bowel prep is. I have been on clear liquids due to major problems I had after my surgery in September. I ate until the day before and did not pay attention to my diet. I paid dearly. I also took a laxative yesterday. Hope this helps! I will be thinking of you tomorrow. We will be crowned YEEHAW!!

Kelle, I had surgery on the 3rd of November..I too was told that a bowel prep was NOT necessary...boy, was that the wrong information for me....as it turned out my surgery was stared, and because I had such extensive damage from Endo..that had fused my bowel and uterus together..they couldn't continue the surgery because of the risk of me ending up with a colostomy!!! Now, my Endo. was not previously diagnosed..so they were unprepared with what they found, but..still, the surgery might have been attempted (so I am being told) if a bowel prep had been done. It's not as difficult dealing with a bowel prep as it is dealing with a second surgery as I have too. It can be done the night before surgery in the privacy of your own home...and believe me..I will never have another surgery without a bowel prep!!!!

I had a TAH in August, with no bowel prep. The doctor said it wasn't necessary, and I didn't have any problems with gas or constipation. Good luck tomorrow - I'll be thinking about you!

Thanks ladies for your comments. It helps when you know that people have gone through the same thing that you are going through. I think that I would be a basket case if it was not for this site. Cannot wait until tomorrow when I know that I will be feeling better soon. My thoughts and prayers to all those that will be going to the castle tomorrow.

I had no bowel prep either and did just fine. Just nothing to eat or drink after midnight before surgery.

I had to drink magnesium citrate (10 oz,) at noon, then nothing to eat or drink after midnight. (I just ran to get my last drink of water.) The laxative just started working 1 1/2 hours ago and it is still working! I hate to be graphic, but my behind is really getting raw! OUCH! I am having LAVH with my ovaries, tubes, cervix, and uterus removed in just 7 1/2 hours from now! EEEEKKKK!
