HRT - Premarin

Just wondered if anybody has been taking these tablets as I am now on my 3rd day. I had a BSO TAH on 12th May.
I would appreciate if anyone could give me any feed back on any side affects they have experienced good as well as bad.
Thanks Christine x

I am glad you asked. I had same surgery same day. They gave me Premarin and I haven't started taking them yet. I am not sure I need to. I may be starting to have minor sweats at night but not sure if I should just stick it out.

HRT - Premarin

I started on Premarin the day after my surgery which was on April 5. (TVH with A/P repair). Dr. started me out on .675 mg. per day and I had to have it increased to 1.25mg per day a couple of weeks ago. Was experiencing terribel depression and crying jags. Seems to have done the trick. I now am having very sore breasts but my hot flashes have lessened. Dr. says that we still might have to do some adjusting. Am on 800 IU of vit. E for the sore breasts. I guess I just have to accept one side effect if something else is being helped! Dr. explained that sometimes it takes several changes to see what is right for you. It might even be changing the kind of HRT altogether. Hang in there.

HRT - Premarin

I am 4 weeks post op and the first 3 weeks I had a patch but it kept washing off in the bathtub so I told doc that that just wasn't where it was at. I am on .625mg of premerin and like it but get a bit crabby at night so will increase that to see if that helps. I am 42 and too young yet to not take hormones so will stick it out until I find one that works. I am very out spoken anyway and don't need any extra help that way. I actually need softening up a bit.

Keep taking them and check the web site for premerin if you want to see what the side effects might be.

I am also on Premarin - started the day after my LAVH - BSO - which was 3 weeks ago (4/27). She started me on .625 - then increased after a week to 9 - then increased to 1.25 last week. I did notice a slight headache the first day or two when taking it and increasing it - but nothing bad. This was only to start at the lowest amount and increase in small increments until the hot flashes and other surgical menopause symptoms subsided. Honestly - I have had a great experience so far and have not had any problems or side effects. I was on Lupron for 7 months prior to surgery - which took all estrogen out of my body. it was awful - the constant pain subsided from the cysts and endo - but I had SEVERE hot flashes and everyone at work and home thought I was crazy - as I am only 35 and "too young for that". I can honestly say so far, being on estrogen is better for me than not being on it - and I actually feel better and more even and calm now than I did when my own body was producing it.
I hope you have good luck as well and that you feel better soon

HRT - Premarin

I'm 41 and had a TAH/BSO in December 03. I didn't take the premarin for the first six weeks after surgery, even though my doctor prescribed it for me. I wanted to see if I could handle life without it. I had pretty bad hot flashes, night sweats, crying and all that other fun stuff. At my six week checkup my doctor advised me to give it a try and I did. Within the first couple of days my flashes, sweats and bouts of bawling all stopped. I've never had any side affects from it either. I take the .625 dosage of premarin and life is good. Hope it works well for you.

HRT - Premarin

Hi!

I am 4 weeks post-op from a LAVH/BSO today, and I have been taking Premarin .625 mg since the day after the surgery.. I have no complaints about it. I hope nothing changes when I hit 6 weeks, but so far, life is dandy for me with Premarin!

Good luck to you!

Do you take your premarin at night or during day? Does it matter?

woodsie,

I take 2 6.25 pills a day and I take one in the morning and one at night. That works best for me and i don't have such a sever "sybil" complex.(multiple personalities my dh calles me "sybil") otherwise I don't really think it matters unless you can tell and need it when the stress levels are the highest. i.e. at work or when the kids are home or dh is a pain etc... my life is High Stress so I take it morning and evening.

I have been on 1.25 premarin for 5 months. The first few weeks I had a bad headache every day.
Now I feel great. I have read some bad press on premarin, but I am very happy with it.
