3 Hour Drive Each Way?

My dh and I have a wedding to attend the end of May. By then, I will be 4 weeks post op. from my TAH. The drive is 3 hours each way...we'll be driving to the wedding on a Saturday morning, attending the wedding & reception, then driving back home (another 3 hours of driving) the same day. My husband will be doing all of the driving.

Do you gals think I'll be okay for that long in the car? (unfortunately, we cannot stay overnight)

3 Hour Drive Each Way?

That is a really good question for your doctor to answer. And it isn't a silly question, either. He/She should expect to give input on this issue, I think. Myself, I would only want to make sure I wasn't having bladder issues. And is the road bumpy. and does the seat recline. And do I REALLY want to attend this wedding? There's a whole can of worms there.

Hello,

So sorry to be BLUNT but, NO WAY! I am 4 1/2 weeks post op LAVH and cannot sit anywhere or be in a car for any amount of time! You will be soooo miserable and tired, please do not attempt this, you will regret it! Send a card with money and I'm sure the Bride and Groom will be thrilled! HE HE

3 hr car trip

I agree with Pizzalvr. I'll be 4 weeks post op on Thurs and spent 2 1/2 hours in the car today.

BAD MISTAKE!

I really wish I would have thought things out, I was just tired of being cooped up in the house and wanted to go somewhere so I went to visit my DD at Culinary School (they were doing final presentations). DH drove and we stopped several times for me to walk around, but I really wish I would have stayed home (or just went somewhere closer to home).

3 Hour Drive Each Way?

Wow, not exactly the responses I expected, but I appreciate your honesty.

I have my 4 week follow-up appt. with my doctor a few days prior to the wedding, so I will make sure to ask him about the long drive & if it's okay to go. Knowing my dr., he'll say that if I feel good enough, then it's up to me.

Our car seats do recline...I was thinking of taking a few pillows and just reclining during the drive-I figured that would help. Most of the drive is on the highway, so it shouldn't be too bumpy. My bladder doesn't bother me unless I drink lots of water (which I do every day), but I figure I could just not drink much that morning.

This is my husband's cousins wedding on Cape Cod...my mom in law, who I haven't seen in a year and also my dh's grandparents will be there...those are the main reasons we want to go. Also...I really want to just get out of the house & go somewhere there are people! I'm so tired of being cooped up in the house!

3 Hour Drive Each Way?

I was a few days shy of 4 weeks when we went camping 2 1/2 hours away from home and did a lot of extra hours of other driving just because during the day as well. By the evening, my stomach was pretty swelled, but it wasn't that big a deal. You just have to be the best judge of all that you do. You know how much you can handle. I didn't ask permission from my doc, because I was't going to let anyone stop me.

Best Wishes

3 Hour Drive Each Way?

Hi----

My answer would be no, too. That is a lot of riding in the car and not enough resting so soon after your surgery. At four weeks you will probably still be not feeling 100 %. I think you will be really sorry if you decide to do this. It may also set you back with your healing schedule too....and dont forget you only get to heal once. Check now to see what your doctor advises.

I will be anxious to see what some of the other been there done that princesses advise.

good luck-----kangaa

What about when you get there?

It seems you are asking a lot of your self--even if the drive goes well--what about when you get there--all that additional activity and then another long drive?

If you decide to tackle this adventure-think about how you might be able to elevate your legs and make sure to make stops to move around--it is my understanding that blood clots can still be somewhat of an issue
Personally, this recovery time has not been enough fun to prolong
but each of us is effected differently
Good luck

3 Hour Drive Each Way?

Lots of Pros and Cons here. I have another idea. You said you can't stay overnight, but does that apply to the night BEFORE the wedding as well as the night of the wedding? If you can, how about driving there the day before, checking into a hotel, and staying in bed until the wedding? And if you are completely wiped out, you can skip the wedding and just attend the reception for a few minutes, long enough to see the relatives, then split. OK, that does not sound like fun, but there ya go.
