Period cramps

I have tried to make an appointment with my doctor but can't get in until next Thursday.
Could anybody recommend a really good painkiller for cramps during a period. My periods are absolutely awful now, I have been bleeding for nearly a week and the cramps are horrendous, mainly worse during the evening and at night for some reason.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, ordinary paracetamol etc just do not touch it at all.

Thanks
Jan

Period cramps

Before my hyst, I had awful cramps and I couldn't function! Mine were in the AM and early afternoon though. My doctor prescribed Ponstel, which worked. Ponstel will make you drowsy though. Over the counter, try noproxen sodium such as Aleve. Of course a heating pad always made me feel better too!

Good Luck!

Period cramps

Hi Jan, I have really bad cramps too, although they have improved enough that I do not throw up anymore. I tried all kinds of prescription stuff and to tell ya the truth (not sure a DR would recommend this) I took three ibuprofins every three hours. It was no cure and I didn't feel great but it made me functional. My DR gave me something after my 5th laser surgery that was a mix between a pain killer and a type of ibuprofin (for swelling and bloating). THat worked pretty good. Definately stock up on the Therma Care Abdominal Heat Wraps those are nothing short of a great gift to your belly.

Good luck and I hope you find relief soon. Mine is coming next Tuesday. Yippppeee.

Period cramps

I use an OTC ketoprofen (Orudis KT), which is the best thing I've ever used for menstrual pain. I take 3 at a time (about 37.5 mg.). I don't know what the UK equivalent might be.

Hope you get some relief.
