Fallopian tube prolape after TAH/BSO - How?

OK, I have been searching for an answer and at this point I am quite upset. I was told today (after 18 months of searching) that I have a prolapsed fallopian tube. Problem is - my OLD gyn supposedly removed my tubes during my hysterectomy. How does this occur? Is he responsible for not taking out everything? I have been going through hell for 18months trying for figure out why the pelvic pain etc.. which he said was in my head and he couldn't find anything. I am really glad they finally found this, but also scared to death that I have to go through this whole thing all over again.

Help!

HI

I'm with you. How could you have tubes if what they are connected to has been removed???
You may want to ask this question, maybe he did not remove what he said he would???

I really would like to know the answer. Maybe I need an anatomy lesson but I don't see how you could have tubes if all else is removed.

Please let us know what you find out.

I am glad you have found the source of your problem but sorry to hear you are dealing with something you thought was already taken care of.

Path report

Do you have your pathology report? It should state in there the condtion of your tubes. I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. Its like taking your car in for repairs and trusting the mechanic that he did what he said he did. Let us know how this turns out.

Peace, Cheryl

Hi Best Buddy If you had a BSO (I see it in the title line of the thread), then the tubes should have been taken. The "salpingo-" part of BSO (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy) means the tubes, and "ectomy" is removal.

I agree with (((Cheryl))) that one thing to do is look at your pathology report. Another is to get a copy of your surgery report (either your DR or the hospital would have it) and it should mention removing the ovaries and tubes along with the uterus if a BSO was really done.

I had something odd happen after my hyst too, not quite the same though. A year after my hyst I had to have most of my colon removed. After the surgery, my surgeon (not the same one who had done the hyst/BSO) said that my ovary had been adhered to the colon that was removed. I told him I didn't have ovaries anymore! He said, well, it was pretty hard to tell exactly what the tissue was and he'd just assumed it to be an ovary, but more likely it was the blood supply left over from the ovary that had stuck to the colon like that. I wonder if that could be what's come through your cuff, rather than the fallopian tube?

What is the DR proposing to do to fix the problem? Have you considered getting another opinion?

Fallopian tube prolape after TAH/BSO - How?

I have the pathology report and the hospital report. What puzzles me now is that it says the tubes measured 4-5 inches. To my knowledge the tubes are about 10 inches long - what happened to the rest? I am thoroughly confused and I have to wait until surgery to find out the truth. They will send whatever they take out to the pathologist and then it will be determined what it actually is.

I will let everyone know what the outcome is although it may be a couple of weeks before I am able to have the procedure done.
Thanks for all of the support!

Fallopian tube prolape after TAH/BSO - How?

I just had surgery in April for a prolapsed fallopian tube. I had a TVH in June and I kept my ovaries so it didn't seem so bizarre. It was the first case my doctor had in her nine years of practice and her partner has only had one in 20 years. Just the luck of the draw I guess. She did tell me it was the reason I was having pain and bleeding during intercourse. I will know for sure when I get clearance again at my six week check up. The worst part is explaining to people that I can't lift anything heavy because I just had surgery. (I'm a teller.) They tend to look me up and down to figure out what I had surgery on. I just smile and tell them I'm not going to show them my stiches.
I do feel better now knowing the pain wasn't something I was just going to have to live with. I honestly thought it was just part of the healing process. I hope your surgery goes well, and I hope you get the answers your looking for.

Fallopian tube prolape after TAH/BSO - How?

Well, my surgery is scheduled for June 9th. Right now I am scheduled for a laproscopy to see what exactly needs to be done. From there she will decide if they have to go through abdominally or vaginally. I'm sure everything will go fine and I am hoping this will get rid of the pain once and for all.

Thanks for the support!
