abnormal cells on ovary

Hi everyone,

I had an appendectomy a few months ago and, during the operation, a gynocologist aspirated two cysts on my right ovary. The fluid from the cysts was put in a surgical box and left at room temperature all night (my operation was on a Sunday). The next day it was transported to the lab. The path report lists the cells in my ovary as "suspicious". My doctor told me that the cells were abnormal and that I need a hysterectomy and my ovary removed (my left ovary was removed 5 years ago because of a benign fibroid tumor). First I keep wondering if the fact that the fluid was left in the surgery room overnight, at room temperature, could have affected the outcome of the test. And I've also looked everywhere for alternative treatments for women who have abnormal cells in their ovarian cycts. I can't find any information. Does anyone know anything about this and if a hysterectomy is the only treatment for my condition?

Hiya

I would be very concerned about a diagnosis of 'abnormal' cells found in your cyst. If i were you i would get your pathology report and go and see a gyn/oncologist right away. It could be that you are in the very very early stages of your cells 'turning bad'. You will get the advice you need from a gyn/onc.

Hope this helps.

Sheila
