Migraines & ovaries

I need to have a hysterectomy but am not sure whether or not to remove the ovaries. I started migraines when I entered peri-menopause and am hopeful that by removing the ovaries, I will lose the migraines being they are hormone induced. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Migraines & ovaries

I am hoping for the same results. My dr thinks it will help because my migraines are due to the drop in estrogen. I think being on a consistant level of estrogen it will help. But of course my dr will not tell me that it will definately help. I have also heard that some women have headaches caused by HRT. I am just hoping that the right HRT will keep them away.

Migraines & ovaries

Before my hysterectomy I was on birth control pills and experiencing migranes during my cycle. My doctor put me on Climara (hormone patch) during my cycle which stopped the headaches. Before having my hysterectomy my doctor explained that the reason for my headaches was the sudden drop in estrogen during my cycle. After removing my ovaries and taking HRT I have no longer experienced migranes.

Migraines & ovaries

Just as a warning. it did take 7 months to get me migraine free. It seems like our bodies need time to adjust to the HRT.

Migraines & ovaries

This is good news. I have been having migraines off and on for years. But the last 3 - 4 they have gotten so much worse and more often. I take Tegretol for them. But, my dr didn't say they were hormone induced. I would get them at the beginning of my cycle, but the change in weather could also bring them on. So who knows.

Migraines & ovaries

I too have other types of migraines. Mine are either hormonal or allergy/sinus migraines. I am hoping having the hyst will at least fix the hormonal ones (eventually). After I am healed from this surgery then I will start with getting help with the others.

I have had these for the past 15 years and I am ready to get rid of them.

Good luck to all of you and maybe we can all someday say we are migraine free.

WOOHOO FANTASTIC!
