2 weeks today LAVH/BSO!!
Hello Sisters,
I just wanted to post and let you all know that I had my surgery 2 weeks ago, and I'm feeling so much better! It's been a pretty uneventful recovery (thankfully) and I wish you all the same. Just a few things I thought I would mention...Even though you won't feel like walking after surgery, please try. It makes such a difference. I was up late the night of, and continued to take walks down the hall to get my own water! I didn't end up wearing my own pj's as it was easier to have the nurse help me into a fresh gown...especially with the iv. I suggest you bring a pillow or two from home, they are much more comfortable! And some of your own shampoo...toothbrush and paste, moisterizer, and a good brush. My head got very itchy from the morphine, and it felt good to brush my hair! Of course comfy slip on slippers and a cozy robe...but remember that you will only be able to have the robe over one shoulder (can't get it on the one with iv) so it should be a little bigger. I borrowed my DH's and it was perfect (maybe not quite as feminine, but practical). For home stock up on pads/lightdays...lots of juice and soup. Scrambled eggs were a hit for me!! And lots of bottled water. I have a brita, and it's kind of heavy. Wish I had a fridge full of little bottles. Also have some stool softeners on hand. My bowels didn't move for almost a week, and it was a little painful, so say the least. I wasn't prepared. I wish I had them on hand to take as soon as I got home. Metamucil is good. I do suggest a body pillow. I got one at Wal-Mart. It's helpful when sleeping on your side, and it's good as an arm rest when on your back! I've been sleeping with DH off and on, he's a bit of a snuggler (very nice, but not now!!) so he had the couch all made up for me upon returning. Don't forget a pillow for the ride home, and have some good trashy gossip mags waiting for you (books are good, but I could barely read a page without falling asleep). I had a phone in my room...used it a lot as I get very chatty on pain meds! I had a TV but watched it for maybe five minutes...kind of a waste.
Sorry this is soooo long!! I just wanted to spare you ladies the mistakes I made! I wish you all of the best, and if any of you would like to e-mail me, please feel free at cbtoys@home.com
Huge Hugs to all you LIW...

2 weeks today LAVH/BSO!!
Judy,
You sound really great. I hope my recovery is as good as yours. I'm a bit nervous about the whole ordeal. My LAVH is scheduled for Dec 6th. I've had 2 c-sections, but never a vaginal birth. I'm really afraid of how bad I'm going to hurt "down there" afterwards. I was almost disappointed when he told me I was having a LAVH instead of TAH. At least with a TAH, I kind of knew what to expect as far as pain. And having severe endo, I know all about laps - but the vaginal "delivery" of my uterus, cervix and ovaries is scaring me a little. Also, I'm having this done as outpatient is a bit nerve racking too! I will get to stay for 23 hours afterwards. I am so ready for this, I thought I'd never get nervous, but now that it is getting closer, I'm really getting scared. I'd love to hear your story/experience with the LAVH. I have a ton of questions about what is going to happen to me, and my pre-op isn't until Dec 1. If you'd posted it here before, maybe you could point me in the right direction - or email me at lburnette@blueskypcs.com.

Bonjour Danielle!!
Thanks for your post. I noticed you are from Quebec. I'm writing from Toronto!! Just thought I'd say hello...and wish you well. It was just a couple of weeks ago I was reading the pre-op like a mad woman. I find I'm still drawn to it, in hopes of helping one of my sisters out. I'm forever grateful for this excellent site. Take care of yourself mon ami (sp?)
Hugs....

Judy
Glad to hear your recovery is going well
Lisa B.--I had a LAVH-BSO 10 weeks ago, and I didn't have any vaginal pain at all, just abdominal and gas pain (gas was worse than the surgery pain). You'll be fine! Good luck
