Angry - What will the Urologist do? What will the Urologist do?

Hi, I had my consultation with my GYN on the 21st and he wants me to see a urologist before scheduling tvh for cystocele & rectocele to make sure the bladder is OK. I am more afraid of that and having a catheter, than having the hyst. Does that make any sense? What will the urologist do?

Thanks to everyone for your help! Prayers for all those having their hyst on the 24th.

What will the Urologist do?

Very good question, and while I don't have an answer to that, I can sure sympathize about the catheter! That thing has me terrified because I can't bear the sensation of anything in that body part. Where is Dr. McCoy and all the gizmos from Star Trek when you need him?

What will the Urologist do?

When I went to see the Urologist, he did what was called a cystoscopy. I was VERY nervous about this .. I too don't like catheters. But it wasn't bad.
First they injected something into my urethra to numb it. If anything, it pinched .. over in 2 seconds. I could barely feel the catheter going in. Once it was in, he filled my bladder with saline and took a look around. (It was cool .. I could see the monitor so I could see the inside of my bladder.)
The whole thing took about 10 minutes .. piece of cake!
As I type this, I am thinking he did this because of the bladder sling I had .. doesn't sound like you're having that, so maybe he'll do something entirely different.
Keep us posted.

What tests have been scheduled for you? You could call the URO office and ask...

I had a cystoscopy (very scared)-but my URO was fantastic--very fast and gentle. First he applied some numbing gel to my outside parts, then quickly slipped a very small catheter up the urethra and filled my bladder with cool saline (which felt pretty good, actually since i was raw from all the urine leakage). then he quickly moved the scope/camera around and i watched it on the monitor--he pointed out the fistula and the ureter openings. It was little crampy when he turned the scope different angles, but not bad.
Then, it was over. LIke i said, he was fast, and gentle. Then, of course, all the saline GUSHED out! The nurses just said, "Don't worry honey, we see pee all over this office"

ALso, i had an IVP which is an X-ray where they inject you with dye, then you get scanned on the X-ray table. I was scared of that too, and it was a big nothing.

I was terrified of having catheters after my VVF repair, and my URO said NO suprapubic cathether (thank the lord!!!!!) and the Foley was not painful itself, but i did get very tired of it after 10 days.
