Can I change Dr.s during post op??

I'm just wondering if any sisters out there might be able to answer my question? I want to go to my regular GP whom also does my pap smears and get away from Dr Frankenstein. But can I do this now and is it going to effect my disability?

My Dr. is releasing me to go back at 5 weeks and I am still hurting and he acts just like everything is fine and it shouldnt be hurting now. He only seen me at 3 weeks and said that the incision looked good. I tried to explain to him that I work at a very strenuous job with walking all day on cement floors and lifting boxes of product for inspections that weigh almost 45 to 50 lbs.

He just laughed and walked out of the office. I have been in tears because I don't know what to do and I dont want to screw up my disability right now but I know just from the pain that I am in that I will not be ready. And I DONT want to go back to him for my last visit on the 2nd of June.

I also told him that I am having such a problem with my bowels and that I actually scream when having a bowel movement and then bleeding and my stomach hurts so bad from that pushing that I can hardly walk. He said take metamucil and it will get back to normal eventually. I've also spotted a couple spots of blood in my underpants and I think its just from all the pushing. I dont know......

Hope some one out there with insurance back grounds can help me out on what direction to head in.....

I appreciate all your input.....once again.

I believe that you can (and should) get another doctor's opinion. If you are not comfortable with your current doctor I would definately get another opinion.

I am not sure what kind of hysterectomy you had but I had a TVH and was off for 6 weeks and don't do physical work like you do. My doctor had told me that anyone who does physical labor would be off at least 8 weeks. Maybe you could talk to your GP and see if he/she will speak to the surgeon on your behalf. I don't envy you. I had to go round and round with the disability person in my surgeon's office because the disabilty co. said I could go back after 4 weeks. She basically told me that I had 2 decisions, I could go back or take 2 weeks unpaid. I stuck to my guns and would not back down and forced her (threatened to go above her head) to write the letter with the medical reasoning for me being off for 6 weeks. I told her that I had been told from day 1 by the doctor that it would be 6 weeks and I expected them to back me up. She did do the letter and the disability co. approved me being off for 6 weeks instead of 4.

Good luck.

I used to work in the benefits section of an HR department. Switching doctors will not affect your disability. While on disability, the company is only concerned with you having a verifable physician's note stating your illness and how long you need to be out. It would be illegal for them to discontinue your benefits just because you chose to switch your DR. For example, when I had my children and my primary dr was too overbooked, I would see one of his associates who had to give me a note one time for my disabililty and it never affected anything.

Get away from this doctor fast!!!! If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to email me. Good luck!

Im sorry I should have said what I had done to help you all understand. I had a TAH/BSO with several lesions removed from my colon and adhesions from the previous incision.

TMGEF:
I was wondering though.. the dr fills out my papers for disability and he writes on there when I can return to work and he put the 7th of June my 5 week mark.

How can another dr change that with my disability company?

I am so sorry that your doc is behaving like that!! I am in shock!! I would find myself another doctor for sure. What a jerk.

I don't know anything about insurance, etc - I just wanted to send you some hugs! That's no way for a doc to act.

Thanks LRF for the hugs. they are needed and takin with open arms.

I really don't know how some people can call them selves dr's and treat people like a paycheck instead of human beings with feelings.
