Back home today after TAH on Tuesday and yes there is life after a hysterectomy

I've read a number of postings over the past few months and as with most people, I expected the worst when I arrived at the hospital. However, I was pleasantly surprised with both my recovery and my hospital experience.
The folks in pre-op did everything they could to keep me relaxed. I got all the fun drugs and the anesthesiologist and resident both stayed with me and we told stories about our selves untiil the OR was ready. Now I realize this could be the exception to the rule, but they, along with the nurses went out of their way to make sure I was not freaking out.
After 4 hours of surgery, I was in a lot of pain and the post op folks were less than helpful. However once I got to my room (And yes, go for the private room it is well worth the money) the floor nurses made sure I was never in much pain.
I was up and walking the next day and would have been home on Thursday except that my bladder was not too happy with having been cathaterized and I had lots of trouble urinating.
As every one else who has posted says, the gas is the pits. I still feel it rumbling around.
I am by no means fully recovered, just getting home sent me to bed for the afternoon and I ache all over. I had 2 external cysts removed as well as having all my internal organs yanked so I have three incisions that pull everytime I move. But there is life after surgery. If I can make it through the procedure, just about anyone can. Hang in there and I hope you are all as fortunate as I.

Thanks Mimi,
....and continue to recover. I have found that overall most of what I read about surgery has been positive. Not the horror stories I thought. My TAH is dec 11th.....3 weeks monday so I am sure it will come fast now. I am getting very nervous now. I know it will be uncomfortable at least while in the hospital but those few days will pass. I am more worried about the bladder issues and problems. haha Thanks again and continue to share as you recover!

Life after a hysterectomy

Evenin' ladies:

Ugh... I'm tentatively scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on December 14th. I would prefer the 7th but they want me to see a eurologist to determine whether my bladder should be tacked up. Sounds funky! Wonder if they can do a littly lypo suction while they're at it.

I'm not really keen on the idea of a catheter coming out of my belly for 10 days if they decide on the tacking up thing.

I'm pleased to hear that recovery may not be as unbearable as my mind is slowly trying to convince me that it will be. I'm beginning to get really nervous about post op since I know how hormones can wreak havock with your emotions. Goodness knows I don't want to drive everyone around me crazy.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better... and thanks for sharing your post op news with us.
