New, confused, and scared
Hi I am new here. I have been reading the post and thought what the heck here I go!
I have several fibroids. My Dr. Has given me my options. Surgery.....YUCK! I have had 4 c-sections......I really do not want to be cut on! We have spoke of embolization. I know what it is. I have met with the radiology dept @ IUPUI in Indy. my question is who has had this done and what can i expect.
All I do anymore is think about this......what to do, what not to do etc.....I do not sleep very well cuz' I am thing about my decision I have to make soon. I am really confused and really scared.
Thank you for your time
Lori

Hi Lori and welcome
Although I did not have UAE (uterine artery embolization), there are women here who have. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to share her experiences. To find other threads where UAE is mentioned, use the Search button at the top of this screen and do a keyword search on the term "UAE" or try "embolization." You get a list of threads where this is mentioned and you'll be able to find other members who have had the procedure.
In the meantime, I'm providing a link to an area in our Resources forum where we have compiled lots of information on alternative treatments, including UAE. I hope this will be helpful:

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and what you decide. You are smart to be investigating all your options because there just might be a less invasive solution for you. Sending big hugs your way.

New, confused, and scared
Hi Lori:
I'm also in the Indy area. I met with Dr. << doctor name snipped per Hystersister website guidelines>> at St. Francis Hospital. He is an IR who has done a few UAE procedures, but specializes in other more complicated ones. He could not guarantee that the ovarian artery would not be embolized, thus causing premature menopause if it got embolized too. I've decided to meet with a reproductive surgeon to remove my one fibroid that's really causing the problems (5.4 cm). Yahoo groups has a group listing called Embo Groups, I used it for awhile to help make my decision. You may want to visit it.

Moom_5,
Please do not be scared. There are a lot of "Fibroid" Hyster Sisters on the boards, and I am one of them!! We are here to help.
My Dr. discussed all procedures with me that would just remove my fibroids. However, due to the size of my fibroids he said they would probably grow back. That was a boo-hoo!!!
Instead, I went on (3) months of lupron shots to shrink my fiboids. I am 5-weeks post-op from my LSH (Laparoscopic SupraCervical Hysterectomy) and I am very pleased with my surgery results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a difficult time for a Hyster Sister when she has to make surgery choices. We have all been there...so...please do not feel alone!!
Good Luck!!

Thank you!
You ladies are great! I appreciate the kind responses from those of you who have "been there, done that!"
I went to my GYN today I had and endometrial bioposy (these big word are killers....LOL!) but any way that was a little uncomfortable. Nothing major though......I told my Dr. I am the mother of teenage girls so nothing phases me!
My GYN is great he listens, answers all my questions he does not try to convince me to do one thing or another. I do belive I will go ahead with the UFE. The recovery time is what appeals to me the most . I am a Cheer/tumbling/dance teacher and we are starting our summer season in prepartion for a our fall competitions. So like all the rest of you I am very busy.
I propably will not have the procedure until late June. My hubby will be on vaction and I have to travel to Indianapolis to get it done, thats about a 2 hour drive.
So anyway thats where I am for now. Since I found the SISTERS I am little less freaked out and not so overwhelmed. Thanks again.
