I'm back from the hospital

This is what I remember:

Tuesday the 25th, I got up at 5:30 am and did my bowel prep. Husband woke up and we got into the car and drove to the hospital. We got there at 7 am, filled out paperwork and was taken into a room and was hooked up to an IV and waited. At 8:45, they transported me to the surgery room and that is where it all began.

I was on the table, with my hands strapped to the table like Jesus Christ on the cross. As the ansethesiologist put the mask up to my face, he asked me to start talking about my job and what I did there. Next thing I know, I woke up from surgery with the breathing tube down my throat. I don't think I was supposed to be awake yet, because I remember hearing the nurse say something like "lets give her some Demerol", so they did, and proceeded to take out the tube.

I was then wheeled to my recovery room...room # 810. My husband was there. My stomach was REALLY sore. I had a vaginal hysterectomy, so thank God there were no staples. Anyway, it took a while for the pain to get under control. I had the Morphine pump, but that was just making me nauseous and itchy, so I had to be given some anti-nausea meds, that did help a lot! the day after surgery, the catheter was removed, which I was sooooooooo happy for.....I absolutely HATE catheters...i'd rather pee on myself then have one of those things in my hoo hoo. Wednesday was a painful day, and thursday was a sleepy day. I slept most of all on thursday and at 6 pm, thursday, i was discharged. I'm home now,and am glad. The only thing I miss, was being able to push a little button and have someone help me! lol......that was the best part.

Now it's all about recovery and healing. I have been taking Percocet and Motrin for pain control, and it seems to be working. Last night I woke up twice having to take my meds because of the pain. Also, I have had REALLY bad headaches. OMG, really awful ones that wake me up. I talked to my doctor today and he said that that was normal and to just keep taking my meds!! Thanks for reading and good luck to all you ladies getting ready to have your procedure done!!!!!

I'm back from the hospital

Thanks for all of your details. My TVH is next Thursday, and as you probably know I am hungry for details. The fear of the unknown is the worst thing!

I will be having an epidural, so I won't have the tube down my throat, and I've heard that the pain control is more efficient, too. Most painkillers make me sick to my stomach, so I hope I don't need much by mouth.

Did I mention: You were SO BRAVE!! Good Job!! If I could figure out the smilies I'd add something HUGELY PROUD just for you!!

(OK - I see I've added something, but I don't know how I did it!)

Thanks again. I hope you have a speedy, uneventful recovery!

Connie
