Food-nothing sounds good

Well, here it is, the dinner hour, and I know I need to eat, but nothing sounds good. I am 11 days post-op--anyone else have this lack of appetite? I am not really complaining if it means losing weight, but...just wondering if lack of appetite is common? Even my usual treats do nothing for me.

Food-nothing sounds good

Hi there

I can definitely relate to this. I have been going crazy with not knowing what I want to eat. Most of the time I don't want to eat at all. I get a little hungry but absolutely nothing sounds good or even tastes good. I have made myself things to eat and then ended up not eating them. I don't like any of the usual foods that we eat. I have cried at dinner time because it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm pregnant again but I know that I'm definitely NOT!

I have lost a few pounds anyways which is a plus! I still have very weird eating habits and I'm a little over 3 weeks post op now. I can't eat anything spicy and ice cream sounds disgusting...it's not me! AAAHHH!

I think it may be becaue of hormones being out of whack. My husband said that anesthesia can cause the problem also but by 11 days or 3 weeks as I am...it could be the hormones talking or is that not talking...hmmm

My whole body seems to be out sync so I guess this eating thing just goes along with it.
I hope it gets better...I'll let you know

Hi Melissa

I didn't have much of an appetite either the early post-op weeks. I believe our digestion slows down following a major surgery. It's important, tho, to make sure you are getting some nutrition.
I found that bland foods like soup, mashed potatoes, roasted chicken, mac and cheese, apple juice, cheerios, yogurt tasted good and helped me get through that time.

Try eating bland foods and see how you do.

Sending healing 's

Hello Melicole

I too am in the same boat. I am having to force myself to eat.
Just like you even my favourite foods hold little appeal.

I definitly did not have an appetite post op. I remember my DH coming in with a nice plate of food and would tell me just to eat a little and I just couldn't I didn't want to hurt his feelings so the dog and I became quite chummy and the dog really started to gain weight.

I did find that saltine crackers, graham crackers, and oh boy teddy grahams went down well along with yogurts, puddings and soup, I knew I needed to eat so anything I could get down to get some of my strengh back.

Don't worry though cause one day you'll just start eating again. Hope this helps all of you without an appetite.

Yup... me too. I'm about 4 days post op - and having to make myself eat. I can't even eat an entire peanut butter and honey sandwich or a whole bowl of soup right now.

Even my beloved Ben & Jerry's ice cream doesn't get me interested.

I'm sure it takes a little while for our systems to get back into the "groove".
