Hormone levels checked today???

Went to dr today for 5week checkup. He gave me the thumbs up to go back to work but I told him that for the past two weeks I have been experiencing the worst PMS I think a person could have. I cry, laugh, and want to knock someones head off all in the same minute. I still have pain in my left side and my breast hurt SO BAD it hurts to take my bra off!!! I honestly feel like I am losing my mind. I don't like feeling this way. He said it sounds like my ovaries might not be working and sent me for lab work to have my hormone levels checked.. Anyone with any ideas???

Hormone levels checked today???

Hi Kristy

You're so early yet in your recovery that hormone fluctuations are to be expected. It may take your ovaries time to get back up to doing the job they did before. A simple FSH test would be a good test to determine if your ovaries are still working and maybe that's the test your doctor has in mind. A blood or saliva test for hormone levels at this point wouldn't be very helpful because of how recently you had your surgery. They're more useful once the hormones have leveled off and you're still having symptoms.

I know it's hard to be patient but patience is often what it takes to get through this period of adjustment.

Sending healing s!

Hormone levels checked today???

Hi, Kristy --

I'm sorry you're going through hormone h***

My doc told me prior to surgery that, even if my ovaries are spared (I was able to keep one), they could be "shocked" and might not work well for a few weeks. I could have hot flashes, sweats, or, like I'm having (you, too), breast pain. I can't imagine how you're wearing a bra at all! My left breast hurt so much yesterday that I put a coldpack on it for a while -- actually helped and it's not as sore today.

I think the FSH check is a good idea.

I hope you feel better very soon!
