has anyone taken effexor xr ?

I have been having a pelvic burning feeling for about 6 weeks now. I went to see my dr today and he prescribed effexor, it is given to people with depression, but he also said that it is used for women with the burning feeling in their pelvic area like I have.
I am just not sure about the side effects of this pill.
any input would be great!!
thank You

has anyone taken effexor

This medication is EXTREMELY difficult to discontinue, even after taking it for a couple of days. My suggestion would be to research the internet or ask your doctor for alternatives before you start taking Effexor.

effexor

I have been taking effexor for a year and a half. I love what it did for my depression pre-surgery but have not had the same luck since. But as far as pelvic burning I think that the Dr. just thinks its all in your head. (Jerk). Good Luck.

by pelvic region do you mean vagianl area? If so then you probably need vaginal estrogen. I have the burning sensation which is from dryness. i am on vagifem and i LOVE it. it is a very small pill ( the size of a phenergan) that is inserted as high into the vagina as you can get it, and it delivers estrogen just to your vaginal areas. The side effects of effexor are,at least for me, tremor in hands, zits all over my body, hair falling out, couldn't sleep, Alot of women like it but i hated it. I also used zoloft and paxil cr but had the same symptoms with those also. oh yeah, forgot to mention the WORST...WEIGHT GAIN!!!

has anyone taken effexor

hi whitetitan89,
I am glad you mentioned vagifem, because the dr also prescribed it today, i already feel a little bit of an improvement, this is why i am questioning the need to take effexor xr. i dont want to take any more drugs if i don't have to. I already take cenestin 1.25mg two x per day and ambien to sleep at night.
so, i think i will see what happens with the vagifem first before i start taking anything else.
thank you for your help.

I take effexor for hot flashing....but beware dont skip a dose.....I have forgotten to take it a couple of time and the side effects really kick in....I feel like I have electric shocks going through my body....sort of like I have a hum or buz.....a horrible jittery feeling. It works great for the minor depression I felt after surgery and for the flashing but you know it when you skip a dose. I have tried to cut my dose of 75 mg back to 37.5.....I havent been too successful....I can go one day on the 37.5 but the second day I can tell i need the full dose....so I guess I have cut back some but not as much as I would like. The thought of getting off of it does scare me....I tried Celesta at first and had no problem discontinuing it.
I am also taking Ambien for sleep. I usually take 1/4-1/2 a 10 mg pill. A full pill is way too much and I get a sort of amnesia. How habit forming are the Ambien's....I have heard that they are not habit forming but then from another source heard they were.

Hi

I just wanted to share my opinion. They tell you that most anti-depressants are not habit forming which may be true, but they are a doosy to come off of. I was on Paxil CR for awhile (not suppose to be habit forming) and I would notice if I skipped a dose. Wow the headaches, shakes , dizzy, vomitting etc:

Anyway you can not just discontinue these meds. It will give your body some terrible side effects. I was told when I wanted to come off it, That I should cut little slivers off a week at a time so my body never knew what it was missing. It took a total of around 2 months to stop taking it , but it worked like a charm. I never had any side effecys of stopping the medication.

Hope this helps someone
