spasm in eye/side of face?
I've been having a heckuva time with the vision in my right eye and no one knows why.....seen two docs already, now I'm starting to have pain behind it (both my mum and sis have glaucoma) but have also been having high BP and headaches from that so haven't known if that was part of it.....which has been somewhat helped by changing my birth control pill I take for HRT..........plus they said I was having ocular migraines.......
this afternoon I just had this weird spasm start above this right eye.....move thru the eye and down the side of my face, I know we've all had twitches in our eyes before, this was no twitch.....it lasted about 10 seconds while it moved through......
please tell me anyone has had this?

(((Gidge)))) I'm so sorry you're having yet another issue to deal with
(((Sweetie))) I honestly can't say I've ever had this problem... but, then again, there are a number of things I've never had
I just wanted to say that I think it would be a good idea to call your doctor about this: you really want to err on the side of caution in cases like these. And, if it happens again, either go straight to your doc's office or to the ER.
Tons of s are going you way. Please keep us posted.

spasm in eye/side of face?
Hi gidge,
Yes, I have had this problem before (and still do). I have multiple sclerosis and it was via these types of eye problems that it was diagnosed (optical neuritis).
My suggestion to you is to go and see an opthalmologist as soon as you can. An opthalmologist can look into your eye and see what the problem seems to be and may wish to run some tests.
I am sorry to hear you are having this problem along with the eye pain and facial spasms. I know how difficult this problem is.
Try to get a lot of rest and stay calm if at all possible.
Best of luck to you.

spasm in eye/side of face?
thanks for your replies girls
Sue, my Mum has MS and her's manifested firstly in her eyes as well so it's what I"m afraid of but the opthamologist I saw last was really useless and said while she couldn't rule out something neurological she couldn't say that's what it was either.....
I am seeing my GP tomorrow night and telling him about it......my optomitrist who is very helpful is very worried about my difficulty seeing (which doesn't seem to require a higher prescription) everything is foggy and fuzzy particularly at night....and I have these black spots in the corner of my right eye, and most recently this dull pressurey like aching behind it.....now this spasm thing.......does this sound like how you were and did they give you anything to help with it?

spasm in eye/side of face?
Hi Gidge,
I am sorry you are having the vision problem.
I remember reading on here awhile ago someone with visual problems and somehow relating it due to lack of hormones. I will see if I can do some searches and find it.
I hope you are feeling better soon and will pray for good results.

spasm in eye/side of face?
Do you have dark circles around your eyes? My sister has been having this problem..she started it prior to her hyst in Nov. Unfortunately for her they mis diaganosed her as HAVING MS and proceeded with treatment for that..she came very close to death.Because she DID NOT have it.
God reading your words ,,they could have been written by her. She ended up getting optical neuritis form the meds she was given ( alot of medications will cause this)
Unless there is a history in your family of MS (there was /is none in ours) I would rule out the hormone imbalance first! My sister is doing so much better now since she had her hyst and finally got her hormones figured out. She obviusly stopped the MS treatments that caused her to become much worse. As you stated you have noticed changes with bc/hrt I would exhaust that route first.
We came so close to losing my sister due to the misdiagnoses. Funny how doctors don't concider "women problems" as a possibility of effecting other parts of our bodies. and hormones reek havoc on us. Talk with your GYN first and try to work on the hormones...Good luck to you and may you find an easy answer.

spasm in eye/side of face?
thanks so much for your response!
I do have a family history of MS my Mum has it, but the hormone doc I saw yesterday was very interested to hear about the problems with my vision and has done a wack of bloodwork so we'll see where this goes.......hopefully it's hormonal!!

spasm in eye/side of face?
hi gidge,
There is no cure for MS nor any real solid treatment, especially for the eyes.
What you need is an MRI scan of the brain - it will show whether you have MS or not.
I'd be highly concerned if I was you. My mother (who died in 2002) also had MS. I found this out after she passed away as she concealed it from me. She was 77 years old and had had about 50 surgeries on her feet, knees, legs, etc.
Anyway, be advised that if you pursue this avenue and you find out you do have MS you are basically up the creek to get any insurance.
I did not find out I have MS until I had an optical attack in 1995 after many years of symptoms/attacks. I ended up going blind in one eye in November of that year so there wasn't much I could do to conceal it.
MS is one of those disease where no one seems to know the cause nor treatment for. Think about this wisely before you proceed.
I am glad I did not know that I have MS sooner in life to be honest with you. I was diagnosed at age 39 - 6 mos. after receiving my Master's degree. I am now on SSDI.
It ***** to be honest with you. I'd hope for anything BUT MS myself.
Take care and be optimistic.

spasm in eye/side of face?
thanks very much for your info and input......I am indeed hoping that it is anything but MS but with the family history we have to keep our eyes open so to speak......that coupled with the fact the opthamologist can't find a reason why I can't see well etc has us all very confused I plan to see my GP within the next week and bring him up to speed.....I just wonder if my high BP can effect my vision???
