Advice for thyroid problems and menopause?

I was just wondering if there are any of you who are dealing with thyroid problems and menopause?

There seems to be several things that apply to both, and I am wondering how others deal with them.

Saw Dr. today to get a current blood test for thyroid to see if med is correct. Can't take anything for menopause. Soy and black cohash will interfere w/thyroid.

W/my family's med history, I need to get more active, lose weight, and eat healthy. Those are a given. Have had big stress, but this is easing up some. Feel that I can begin to do better.

But is there anything else I can do to help myself? I would love to hear from anyone about their experiences w/thyroid and menopause. Thanks!!!

Advice for thyroid problems and menopause?

I had an early but natural menopause at 39... at around the same time, I was diagnosed as hypothyroid. These two do seem to go hand in hand.
I am now 51. I am balanced now on thyroxine and after 11 years on HRT am now going it alone....and am doing fine.
Helping yourself?...good diet, exercise, water and resting when needed. Treat yourself nicely....

The best you can do is be good to yourself watch your diet and excercise.

I too have the same problems as you and along with the hot flashes some days are harder than other. I find walking to be the best stress buster. Have to force myself but glad when I do.

Having others with the same problems seems to help. Good thing about this bb, You are not alone.

Take care! and here's a HUG

Advice for thyroid problems and menopause?

I am hypothyroid, diagnosed about 2 years ago and on Levoxyl. I had TAH/BSO in January, taking no HRT but am using black cohosh. I do avoid soy because I know of the bad effects on the thyroid but didn't know anything about problems with the black cohosh. What did I miss?

I am also hypo and have read that you can't use black cohosh and soy products - the supplements bind the thyroid med and it inhibits med absorption.

So what natural/synthetics do you use to bout the menopause symptoms? I have been using the Vit.-E/Evening Primrose everyday, which I read helps ease some of the side effects.

I would be very interested in hearing more on this subject - since I need to make the "decision."

Peace to all,
RL
