progesterone reaction
I started taking Triest 2.5 12 days ago and had been feeling wonderful. I am supposed to be on progesterone for 10 days and 20 days off. The dose on that is 50mg. I am taking one pill a day each. I started the progesterone on Saturday because my dr. didn't want me doing both at the same time and I haven't felt as good since. But only occasionally. It seems to happen more after I come home from work and I get these strange feelings, weightyness on my chest, tingling in my body like I am going to have a hot flash, but only get warm and then it goes away.
Anyone else ever have that reaction??? I am so new to this and I hate it because I was feeling so good!!!!
Is this something I just need to battle through and will get better???

progesterone reaction
Hi Marty
Just to clear something up, did you mean you weren't to start the progesterone at the same time as the Triest (which is very smart!).... I wasn't sure because you said your doctor didn't want you to do both at the same time and I just want to make sure you didn't stop the triest and start the progesterone.
Next question is, why does your compounding pharmacist recommend cycling the progesterone? It's come up a few times recently with others who are doing the same. My compounding pharmacist and doctor have me take mine every day. For me that makes sense as it keeps my hormones level day-to-day without those annoying fluctuations my ovaries gave. I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything else.
What time of day are you taking your progesterone? You could try changing the time of day you're using it to see if that makes any difference.
There definitely will be an adjustment period as you get used to these new hormones so yes, it will take time. Patience goes a long way here in the Jungle!
If you're really bothered by the symptoms, by all means you should contact your doctor or pharmacist. Certainly they can tell you if this is a typical reaction or something to be more concerned about. I see from your prior posts that you have some other medical issues so keeping in close contact with your doctor is not a bad idea.

progesterone reaction
I am sorry for the confusion April Dawn. She didn't want me to start both at the same time. I felt so bad this morning I didn't know if I was coming or going. Weepy, very sleepy, (closed my eyes looking at the computer and the next thing I knew my head was bobbing) and very nauseated. I couldn't eat bfk and that had me concerned because I am being treated for systemic yeast.
I called my doctor and she said to drop the progesterone and call her first thing tomorrow. I went back between freezing cold and burning up. I am very hot natured so the cold part was highly unusual.
I am feeling a little better now and I am going to try and eat some dinner. I am planning on an early bedtime!!!!!
My doctor (not my gyn she wouldn't do bio identicals) said she cycles the progesterone, because our bodies cycle. I am hoping I won't need to do the progesterone for a long time to come!!!!!
thank you for your advice and support!!!
Marty

(((Marty))),
Thanks for clearing that up. I was pretty sure you meant that you didn't start them at the same time but wanted to make sure.
One thing you'll find the more you read here is that not all of us do well on progesterone. For me it works great but there are plenty of women here who can't stand it and don't need it. If you're doing well with just the Triest, there's certainly nothing wrong with going with an estrogen only approach. Many successfully do!
I hope tomorrow is a much better day for you.

 Marty,
If you were doing well on the Tri-est, without the progesterone, perhaps you don't need the progesterone. At least not yet. You are still fairly early post op and your body can still be recovering and adjusting. Some women find that they do need progesterone, but many do not. Unforunately, hormones are not one size fits all.
Does your doctor always prescribe progesterone, or is there a reason why she wants you to use it?

You know what helped me? Taking my progesterone at night...about an hour before bed. My compounding Pharmacist suggesseted this and it worked! I wasnt sleepy during the day anymore! I never knew THAT would matter. Maybe you might try? Laura

Progesterone to sleep better?
My DR has me on Bi-est, progesterone and testosterone combined in one creme. He started me out on 25mg of progesterone 2x daily. I still have probs with imsomnia and have a hard time falling asleep. I was wondering if I need more progesterone. I spoke to my compounding pharmacist about this, and he wanted me to wait the first month before changing perscription. He said if I still have probs sleeping at night that he can recommend to my DR on giving me a progesterone pill before bed.
Has anyone used this method to sleep better?

Elizabeth,
Progesterone did help improve my sleep. I wonder if you could change to using it at night? That is, use the total amount at bedtime rather than half in the morning, half at night? Just a thought!

progesterone reaction
Hi April!
That is what I was thinking too. I can't do that now, because he has all of them combined in one. Unless I ask him to make up the progesterone seperatly from the estrogen and testosterone. It seems like I am feeling very well, except for the insomnia, and some waves of heat. But much improvement in 2 weeks!! I have another 2 weeks until I have a full month;s dosage in me.
I thought it would take much longer to feel half way decent, so I am presently surprised by the results this far. I can't wait till I apply the cream!! I would never give this stuff up if this is what I will always feel like!

Oops! I guess I misunderstood.....
Re-reading that I see where you said they were all combined, but I guess I got thrown by the progesterone 2x a day.. Sorry for the confusion!
If you could have the progesterone compounded separately that would be ideal. I have four compounds and each is separate. For me it's smart so I can adjust the dose (especially the testosterone) without upsetting the levels of anything else. Just something to consider next time you get a refill.
I'm glad you're feeling so well and hope you are all balanced soon!
