Passed Cystoscopy- failed urodynamics

Thanks to the kind sisters who helped me calm down about the cysto. As it turned out the doc was great. I had gone for the urodynamics test the day before & they found my urethra very inflammed . So I told the doc about this this am. He was excellent- very gentle & passed the scope with minimal discomfort. Now I'm on the pyridium. He basically found that my bladder was fine. The reasons for the urgency can be due to the muscles reacting to the surgery - removal of a large fibroid pushing my bladder way up. somehow. I was offered biofeedback- so I'm going to try it - He says it works for about 80% of people .
The urodynamics test was real interesting. I dont want to explain it unless someone really wants to know. I dont want to scare anyone by explaining it because I didnt have a positive experience.
Thank-you all.-one can always count on their sister!

JustB,

Well I am glad that you made it through the Cystoscopy without any problems. I am glad that they found your bladder to be fine, and hope that you start feeling better soon.

What exactly is biofeedback? And if you don't mind, I would like to know what the urodynamics consisted of. Am curious since I am still having bladder problems. If you don't want to post it, then you can email me at LisaM@hystersisters. com

Take Care.

Passed Cystoscopy- failed urodynamics

Hi:
I just read both of your notes and I too have been having alot of bladder trouble continuess pressure the Doctor currently has been on some pills but they are not helping and I have to call him back next week. He mentioned a few tests that he may do and I was wondering if you could e mail me and inlighten me on these tests. A couple of years ago I had some tests on my kidneys and bladder long before my Hysterectomy which I had this past January 2000 and though they did not last long they were very uncomfortable. It is very sad after the years you put up with so much trouble to come to this!
Hope all starts going well for you!
Pam

JustB,
I am very interested in both of the tests you have had, I have also had problems with my bladder since surgery. I've taken several medications, including pyredium, detrol, a couple of different antibiotics. NOt taking anything right now, and am thinking I need to call the doc yet again, although some of my problems seem to come and go.

Passed Cystoscopy- failed urodynamics

Okay ladies here goes. This will be graphic. also please be aware that my reaction to these tests were impacted by the fact I had just switched estrogens & the overlap (Ithink) caused me to have a estrogen high!
Urodynamics- I dont know exactly all it measure but I know It measures your bladder capacity , when you first have the sensation to void , when you absolutely have to void , how quickly you empty your bladder & the force that you void with. They start by inserting 2 catheters. They insert a size 4 catheter into your bladder(the one you had post-op was most likely a 14 or a 16) This catheter is very small. Then they insert another catheter into your rectum.I dont know what thats for -I think its to put pressure on your bladder. Then they placed 3 small electodes on me -one on my hip, one on my thigh & one on the inside of a buttock cheek. Then they sat me on a commode , where the catheters were hooked up to the computer. The catheter in my bladder was hooked up to a bag of sterile water. Slowly , water was pumped into my bladder . I was told to let them know when I felt the urge to urinate. then tell them when I felt I couldnt hold it any longer. when I told them that they stopped filling my bladder. I was then asked to void around the catheter & empty my bladder. the tech left the room for this part so I could have some privacy( LOL ). Unfortunately this where I had a problem. I couldnt pee around the catheter. So they deflated the rectal catheter & I tried again but to no avail. So they took the little cath out of my bladder. This test sounds worse than it is. When she went to put the cath in my bladder , my urethra was very inflammed so it hurt more than normal which addd to my overall stress.
Now the cysto was really OK. The doctor did this procedure. basically a cystoscope is used to look into your bladder. the flexible tube on the scope is about as big as the cath in the hospital. The doctor uses some numbing gel in your urethra before inserting the cath. Once in your bladder he looks around. I was able to see the inside of my bladder on the monitor. This Procedure took less time than the urodynamics. After both I was given antibiotics to take. the cysto required 3 one day doses.
Now Biofeedback. I dont know all thats entailed yet but I have been doing some info seeking on the net. this is what I found. Biofeedback is used to train bladder muscles, abdominal & pelvic muscles in relaxation . It seems that we should be able to seperatly tense & relax the muscles of our bladder, vagina & rectum . I found info about biofeedback per se on a network called www.ic-network.com Go to search and enter the word biofeedback. read the postings. its very interesting. seems there is some kind of disorder called PFD. Pelvis floor dysfunction.?? Kinda makes sense if you think about it.
well I'm going for the biofeedback- well see what happens. At least I may feel I can get some control over this urgency. The only thing with the biofeedback is I think you put something where the sun dont shine again!(LOL). I hope this info helps some of you. I really can empathize with you all since I feel so miserable at times. I feel as if I traded one set of problems for another & I'm tired of taking my pants off for people!
