Expectations for women

Hi everyone,

God, this is so hard for me to write. I have been reading everybody's messages since March 8th, I have replied very little.
I feel like a taker but I am a very private person.

I am a teacher and I guess that explains a lot. You can't make mistakes and feel sick. That is what is expected. I love the children, but had a hard time reaching the expectations of the school and administrations this year. I have read a lot of operations that teachers have had and I think it is because most teachers are women. It is a womens profession, so therefore, the chances of hysterectomy are high.

I went back to 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students, who I love with all my heart and soul. How else could you be a teacher? "You gotta love them" and oh God I do.

I just want to say to all the parents out there, please, please,
understand that we would not be there if we did not love them,

Remember we are people too.

The demands are too great at times. We are only one person
I have 122 children a day.

The pay is horrible, so we would not be there unless we loved children.

I went back to work, without the students and parents aware of my surgery, It was very difficult.

The end of the school year is hear. No one to help pack up the books.

A kind word to teachers now and then would help - no matter if there is an operation or not

Thanks,

Kate

amen! I am a teacher too... special education for grades 3-5 in a small district. It would be nice to be appreciated once in a while.

((hugs)) to you while you recover.

Expectations for women

I think ALL women, not just teachers have a lot of expectations placed on them. We are all just expected to be superwomen, without any consideration for our own health and well being.

Kate, I know that teachers are underpaid and underappreciated. I do appreciate all of the good teachers I've had all my life, and recently got to thank a few of them at a "reunion" of sorts.

I wonder if things wouldn't have been a bit easier for you if you'd had your surgery on summer break? I don't know your situation.

To ALL of the Divine Sisters....You are all amazing strong wonderful women who have helped me through a really difficult time in my life.

Bless you all
Tam

I appreciate you

Believe me, I grew up with my mother being a teacher and my father an elementary school administrator. i dont think that people realise that when you walk out the door at the end of a long day that you still have lesson plans and papers to correct. I watched my mother for 28 years sit at the kitchen table night after night until late hours doing lesson plans and correcting papers. I also know that you worry about each every one of your students. My mother died 10 years ago at the young age of 57, I was only 30. i still see people on the street say to me, your mother made a huge impact on my childs life. Teachers are a rare and precious breed, I hope your recovery and your life are both well, god bless, baily

Expectations for women

Oh, I for one really appreciate the hard work and nurturing that is all part of being a teacher: not only am I very involved in the various school committees (PTA, Fund Raising and Volunteer work), I'm also the mom of a 13 yo special needs child: without the help, the love, the committment and understanding of most of his teachers, we would have given up on the school system, a long time ago!!!

One thing I've learned, along the way, is the importance of making my needs heard: I do tell people when I'm hurting, when I'm ill or when I'm feeling down. And I'm always amazed at how helpful people can be!!! And there is no shame in having had a hyst: I'm even finding that I can educate people on just what is involved with this surgery, on the diseases that lead to the surgery and on helping others through recovery. People really are amazing. And so are children: my children were 5 and 9 when I had my surgery and both of them were very caring and very helpful.

Anyways, all I want to say was that not all parents are oblivious to the fact that teachers are people too and that they do a lot to help our children. You guys are simply awesome!!!
