Should I Keep Waiting?

Hello,
I'm age 45 and earlier this year (February) I was scheduled for a hysterectomy. I had some late blood test results to come back indicating I had high FSH levels to which my Dr. explained that I was probably already into early menopause and may not experience another cycle and we mutually agreed to put the surgery off and see how things went for awhile. I went back in late May for a follow-up and my FSH factor had dropped to a normal
level. This was without the aid of any medications. My Dr. then asked me to try prometrium to help get my cycles regulated. The prometrium has helped
some but I feel tired most the time and still experience some breakthru bleeding, heavy bleeding/cramping and headaches. The reason I was going
to undergo the surgery was due excessive menstral cycles (every 12-16 days) and heavy bleeding/cramping. I have an abnormally shaped uterus and had to undergo c-sections with both my children. I just at wits end on this. I just wonder if anyone else has gone through a similar situation and
how was the outcome.

Should I Keep Waiting?

Tcamp,

I decided to reply because you are close in age to me. I am extremely happy that I opted for a hyst. No more pressure from fibroids and no more periods!! I feel very healthy being in post-op. And, a hyst was NOT an easy decision for me to make.

On your heavy bleeding did your Dr. say it was because of your abnormally shaped uterus only?? Or do you possibly have something else going on??

From my research, some Hyster Sisters with cysts and fibroids also have heavy bleeding.

A Hyst is a personal decision. I could suggest you get a 2nd opinion if you need some more info. I got two opinions myself.

Good luck. The decision making can be the hardest part. You will make the best decision for youself.

Should I Keep Waiting?

Being in pre-menopause who knows how long it will take to really kick it into gear with menopause. Has your Dr givin you a time frame of how long you should wait and see? What about the female members of your family--when did they go thru menopause? How long are you willing to wait before you just can't take it any longer?

Good Luck!
