look of scar
I am over 3 months post op and doing great!! I am wondering about this angry red scar! I used mederma and now am breaking open vitamin e and pouring it on. It doesn't change. It is a vertical scar. When will it lighten and what should the final look be? How long before I don't really notice it anymore? Trivial I know. Sandy

look of scar
Hey there.
My scar was pink and very raised until I started putting pure Vitamin E oil on it (not pills, but pure oil) in March -- nearly 4 months after surgery. It is really going away. Could be the amount of time or the Vitamin E oil - - either way, it's working!
It's worth a try . . .

look of scar
I have a couple of largish scars, the biggest on my arm healed badly so ended up getting it covered with a fantasy dragon tattoo (in the style of Anne Mc Caffrey) the scar is about 4 inches long & nearly an inch wide.
I remember it was quite red for about a year, the nex time I looked it had faded down to a slightly deeper pink than my skin tone (you do forget to look at them after a while)
The reason I had it covered was because when I wore short sleaved tops It would go a very deep shade of purple, that made it stand out from my very fair skin in a most horrible way.
Strange I can live with a tattoo which is still a kind of scar than the scar its self. Now I'm not trying to suggest you get a tattoo on your belly to hide the scar. lol
But I did forget about the scar (untill it did its colour change thing) The redness dose fade & it depends on the person, I would say mine loose the red angre look after a year, then they get the purple look only when I get cold, but only one other person will see that besides my Dr & my DH just thinks I'm wiered anyway. lol

The part about being a virgin again is so true!! It is different.
But...onto the scar issue...where do I get vitamin e oil? Health food store? Why is it better than the pills? Thanks.
I really thought the mederma was the way to go since my doc suggested it and also it is so expensive.
Thank you both for you replies.
P.S. No way will I get a tatoo.....Pain on Purpose??

Happy7:
I went without sex for long I think I was a ten-times born again virgin. Hee hee.
I bought my Vitamin E oil in the grocery store, actually -- but probably any store that has a large selection of vitamins will have it (you have to look carefully, because it looks just like a jar of vitamins -- only smaller). I just think it's easier than the pills, because you have to always pop the pills open to get the oil (plus I always thought the pills kind of smelled). This way, the oil you can just dab on straight from the bottle. It probably is a little expensive, but I'm not even 1/4 through the bottle, and I've had it since March. Hope you find some (oil, that is! hee hee).
Take care.

I will look for the oil next time I am out. I had to use tweezers to open the pills and got very little out.
Regarding the sex.....it is a little different now. First it was the new virgin thing but what I am really noticing now is it takes a long time to orgasm. Am I the only one?

Sex is pretty much the same for me (when I get it -- that is!; I still have problems with spotting -- which is a whole other frustrating story!). I kept my cervix because I was afraid sex would change if it was removed (and I'm an admitted horndog), and because my doc said she hates to remove something perfectly healthy. So I don't know if that makes a difference in the "big O" or not.
It is a relief to know that it still works, huh?

Yeah...my doc and I discussed it too. I only have one ovary left.
I have had dryness issues twice (never before) and although I am VERY satisfied with my orgasms...it is a bit frustrating that it takes longer. I was very relieved to know I still could. Maybe with time I will speed up again. I had no pain and no problems just a football in my tummy!! Hope you continue to heal.

Just get vitamin E pills (The little footballs I call them) and break them open. However vitamin E can cause contact dermatitis and there are no studies supporting beneficial effects on scar appearance. Mederma on the other hand is building a pretty good scientific case that it works...but over prolonged use (like months).
With that said most people's scars will fade to white in a year or so without any treatment. It just takes time.

be cautious of buying vitamin e in bottled oil form. some companies are not too careful with the products they mix it with to make it oilier. I was told to get the capsules or have it mixed for you by a pharmacist.
good luck
