Going to ER to be CAUTERIZED!

Fellow Hystersisters ~
I am three weeks post op today and woke bleeding. It has subsided since morning, but I'm still spotting bright red. I had a similar episode on Monday which my said was probably a hematoma. Now that it's happened again, he wants me to go to the ER and says I probably need to have my vaginal cuff cauterized! I'm leaving in about a half hour and am scared (even though I know this is pretty standard stuff).

Any other ladies been cauterized? How were you afterwards?

Going to ER to be CAUTERIZED!

I had my vaginal cuff cauterized with silver nitrate at about 6 weeks post-op. I did not feel it when they did the procedure but some ladies have said it stung a bit. After the procedure I had a blackish/brown discharge for a few days. You may also have a small bit of cramping - I took Tylenol for a day after the cauterization and felt fine.

Good luck!

Going to ER to be CAUTERIZED!

Thank you to everyone who replied!
I went to the ER and was able to see my . After looking at the cleaned area, he told me that, although part of the vaginal cuff was healing nicely, there was a mucosa, or an area that had separated and was bleeding. He said it's not what he likes to see, but that he believes with two weeks rest it will resolve itself (minimal walking, no exercise, lifting, etc.). He said that he didn't want to cauterize it because sometimes that irritates things more. He also concluded that there probably never was a hematoma; that the bleeding on Monday was probably from the mucosa as well.

I am in a lot of pain right now from all the poking, pressing and prodding, but am relieved that it wasn't anything more serious. Thank you to everyone for your support and prayers. It made me feel so special that all of you took the time to write. And now I am off to rest...
