Painful Bowel Movements

I am new to this sight. Through the grace of god I had a roomate at the hospital who had a hysterectomy three weeks ago and she told me about this sight. If you are reading this Kathleen thank you and hope you are feeling better.
Okay I know that patience is not something I was blessed with but I am diligently trying to be good. Here is what I am dealing with it is only 6 days after my LVAH the day after surgery I had two bowel movements and it was uncomfortable but not horrible. Each day since it seems the bowel movements are more painful. Last night I had a bowel movement at which time I was not sure if I was going to have a bowel movement or a baby! I was sweating, I felt nauseaous and even thought I was going to pass out. By the time I finished and laid back down I was exhausted. My bowel movements are not hard and look very normal. Help, how long does this last?

painful bm's

Theri,
I have good news for you-it gets better!! I took stool softners every day for about 3 weeks, but my movements were still painful! It began to get better the 3rd week after my surgery. But before that I thought I was having a baby again! Hang in there!

Oh, what they did not tell us....

I am taking stool softeners and sometimes the Senakot C also. I take Gas X too. I am relieved to hear this goes away after a month or so. Do we live through til the end of the month?

Sometimes the bowel part is worse than the other healing pains!

Ouch. No one mentioned this BEFORE. Of course, this is a little like well, no one tells you about what raising a teenager is like when you are pregnant either!

Mine is 25 and wonderful now, but it would be a much less populated planet if they flashed the worst of teenage years in front of your face as you were about to conceive! Ha.

try warm prune juice (Yes---it works) sip it while relaxing in a coffee cup...Also helps to have the stool softener pills -I recall it took a while for that area to readjust..I always had a tipped ut and I think with that removed it took the bowel time to get used to no pressure from it...The gas is hard but don't strain...use one of those "corn bags" that you heat in microwave -lay it across yourself and relax...Things take some time...Best of Luck -Abby 53

bathroom joy!!!

Theri--Welcome!!! Yes. stool softeners are the key and plenty of water as well but don't forget to carry a towel or small pillow to the bathroom with you to put on your stomach!!! It always made me feel more secure since my stomach was swelled-up from the healing process!!! Good luck in you recovery---at 7wks I can attest to the fact that it does get easier and better!!!

Painful Bowel Movements

Welcome Theri
I remember the days well! Really the different stages don't last too long! It just seems like it at the time. I would take 1/2 tbs of milk of mag every night before i went to bed during this time. It really helped me!
I would like to make a suggestion that you put some information in your signature. This will help us all help you and you won't have to type it ever again! How you go about this is go to the top of the page and click on profile. Type in the necessary information and then when the new screen opens up scroll down to the signature box. Here you may put your surgery date and type. You may put your location and any other information you would like to share.
Contact me if you have any questions.
Blessings

Painful Bowel Movements

Theri, Sorry you have the bowel pain, but glad to know I'm not alone. My symptoms are almost identical to yours except the pain didn't start until a couple of weeks post op . Wednesday I be 4 wks post op TVH and still have bowel pain and gas. I hope tomorrow is better. I posted yesterday and got some good advise.
In addition to using stool softeners & gas x, someone told me to drink room temperature water. Also someone mentioned her dr. said no soda pop.
Good luck in your recovery period! Cid

Painful Bowel Movements

Dear All Who Suffer From the Bowel Thing,
I've had 5 abdominal surgeries in less than 2 years, and I finally have this part figured out. Go to the health food store and get acidophillus. Ask someone there what you need for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, because the treatment is the same. Also, if you take Beano every time you eat, you won't suffer through the gas in the first place, and won't need the gas-x. This really works, ladies. My brand is Kyo-Dophilus/
