Peeing

Ok....I had surgery 2 weeks ago and I swear I go to the bathroom about 30 times a day! Do other people have this problem after a TAH/BSO? Is it that my bladder is lonely in there so it's causing a scene? Anyway..just wondering if other people have this problem!!!

I too have to go pee a lot. Maybe it's all the water we're drinking! Went to the grocery store a few days ago, spent $90 and I swear, I think most of it was liquids!!

Bladder is lonely...

Yes, yes & yes! I'm in my 8th week now but I did have this feeling. I thought it may have been a UTI but my bladder was full and UTI usually only gave me the sensation of a full bladder. I could not empty out completely with each trip to the throne. I drank lots of water and cranberry juice (and Sprite) to help clear it up. It finally subsided at about 5 weeks. You may want to check with your Dr. just to make sure that it is not a UTI because they are common with surgeries of this type. Hope this helps.

Very curious to hear replies to your post... I haven't had my hyst yet but have been peeing non-stop for days... I was thinking my fibroids were putting pressure on my bladder and that this would be over post-op... Please tell me I won't keep going on and on and on...

rushing off to the bathroom again...

I've been visiting the bathroom more often too ... the nurse said it was the swelling inside taking up space/pushing on bladder so you feel like you have to go more. Plus the pressure feeling is uncomfortable to me (1 week post-op) so I try to go before it hurts.

Since my prolapsed uterus isn't pressing on my bladder anymore, I can actually hold more urine. I can sleep for 8 hours without having to get up and go potty 3 or 4 times! (or 5 & 6 times) LOL

I have had bladder spasms since my surgery....but that has gotten noticeably better over the past few days.

Drink tons of fluids! It really helps!

Yes, I definitely have to pee a lot too... I'm 5 weeks and it has gotten much better tho. Right after the surgery (when it hurts to keep gettingup and walking to the bathroom) I had to go ALL of the time. As soon as I would lay back down, I felt like I had to go again. I also wasn't emptying all the way. Before the surgery I had to pee a lot too cuz my fibroids were pressing on my bladder...

My doctor said that it should return to normal, but to let him know if I'm still going a lot and not emptying completely in a few months.

However, at this point, I think it'll be fine. It seems to be holding more urine at a time and emptying more completely now at 5 weeks. It's not normal yet, but getting there. =) I find that I don't have to get up during the night a couple of times to go. I can sleep through til morning. Woohoo!

Word of caution: Don't hold it. I had visitors at the hospital 3 days post-op and I tried to hold it for a bit until they were gone. Bad idea! It hurt so much. I actually had more pain from that than the incision that day!

After getting home it was a family joke. "How can you tell when 30 minutes have passed? Mom has to go to the bathroom." It was so bad and my ureter hurt so much that I honestly thought that I had an UTI. Did lab work and everything was just fine. My doc said I was just still very bruised on the inside and the swelling was causing me pain.

Make sure you empty as much as possible each time you go.

Drink lots and lots of water. I alternate - for every 2-3 glasses of water I drink, I then have a glass of cranberry juice. Straight cranberry is too sweet for me so I water it down just a bit but I have heard people adding a 1/4 of a glass of ginger ale. It's good. And the ginger will help you if you have an upset stomache!

Good luck to you all. Remember this too "shall pass!" (I couldn't resist!

Take care and God bless.

Pee...not just a letter anymore!

Hi guys!

I had USI and bladder spasms before surgery, hence the TVT. The stress incontinence is gone, but the bladder spasms remain. Thank God for Ditropan! I get to go back on that in a couple of weeks! So no more bladder spasms!

I drink lots of water, too. I've been staying away from soda as it just makes gas worse.

If you're still peeing like this by week 6, you might want to ask your doc about spasms.

Peeing

I had my hyster on 6/14. After surgery and the catheter was removed (ick), I must have peed 10-15 times a day. Very unusual for me - and with a lot of volume. They pumped me with lots of fluid so I'm assuming that's the cause.

Just this week it has slowed down and the pain is better. Make sure you don't wait too long to go to the bathroom. If I wait too long, I can barely stand up straight because of the 'stitching' pain. The pain subsides after a trip to the potty. Strange.

I had my bladder 'tacked up' and my MD said that may attribute to the pain and will get better with time. He's right.

Good luck.
