Vaginal laser surgery over!

I went for my pre-op on Tuesday, and my new gyn-onc said that he thought it was moderate VAIN, not severe, but that it was a judgment call and he wouldn't know until he got in and saw what was under the top layer. Went for surgery on Thursday morningl; scheduled for 8:30. The gyn onc came to see me and talk to me while I was in the holding room, as did the anesthesiologist. I told anyone who would listen that general anesthesia leaves me nauseated and they told me they would take care of it.

I remember laying on the operating room table, it was 8:27, the anesthesiologist told me he would give me something to relax me and that it worked pretty fast. I remember waiting for him to start the anesthetic (where you get that good buzz for a second); never felt it - next thing I knew I was in the recovery room! Taken back to my room, given a choice of juices; never the slightest bit nauseated. The only pain/discomfort was the tops of my thighs/pelvic area and back, which I presume was from whatever position I as in during the surgery. I told them it was 1-2 on a scale of 10, they gave me a darvocet and it went away.

I got a presription for darvocet filled; took it regularly yesterday - no pain. Got up this morning and took 3 OTC advil and I'm fine. I'll try 2 next time. No bleeding, no cramps. No complaints. The gyn-onc said nothing under the top layer, no more abnormal cells, so all he had to do was the laser. No wide excision or biopsy. He did remind me it can come back, and wants to see me in 2 weeks for follow up, then every 3-4 months for pap smears. He agreed that doing a DNA test to see if I have the aggressive strain of HPV would be a good idea so we can keep a closer eye on it if need be.

All in all ... I'm confident in my doctor, and wouldn't be afraid to go back in again. My biggest thing will be not overdoing too soon, and no sex for two weeks, lol!

Vaginal laser surgery over!

Thanks! My TAH-BSO two years ago for endo ca 1B 2 went smoothly too, and I didn't need any further treatment. Of course, how lucky can one get to have two completely different types of cancer trying to invade ... Can't ask for more than having them both eliminated, even if it is for now and who knows what lies ahead!

I will be keeping you in my thoughts, prayers, and sending good wishes and vibes that your surgery goes as uneventfully as mine. I was due to take my Advil at 10, and haven't felt a twinge so haven't bothered ... yet! We'll see as the day progresses! I drove to the store already; no problems getting up or down - but it was just laser after all, no excision, and vaginal not vulvar or cervical, which I can only imagine makes a BIG difference in recovery and pain time!
