Fingernails and Teeth
I just noticed yesterday that my fingernails have grown in nicely since my surgery! I always used to grow nails effortlessly, until my problem periods started. My nails got really bad, and tore off at the slightest provocation. Can this be related to anemia? My hemoglobin levels were really low before surgery, and I haven't had them checked since - going back for the six-week on Friday. Could this mean my levels are up?
About a month before my surgery a big piece of one of my molars broke off while I was eating lunch. It was a big repair - last week a small chip broke off the first tooth's neighbour. I know it could be coincidence, but do you think this is all related?

My teeth, hair AND nails got healthier after my hyst. I was a 6 on the anemia level. I was supposed to be a 12. I have often thought that my health has improved since I stopped bleeding to death every month.

Come to think of it, my hair does look better than it did. I haven't been to the stylist yet - looking forward to that!
I guess the tooth issue would take longer to develop and resolve than the fingernails would.

I had my second surgery(BSO) 2 days before you, and I had an appt. with my stylist(pre-planned before surgery)for the middle of June, but I had to cancel it since I could not have sat for that long without hurting and feeling like I needed to pee every 15 minutes! LOL I am feeling better now, although I still pee more than I did before surgery, but I need my hair cut and colored something awful, so I am really looking forward to my appt. this month!
I think the teeth thing would definitely take longer!

I have noticed that my toe nails are growing like crazy! They're way too long and I can't bend over to cut them yet. I know my DH would volunteer, but I'd be scared he'd cut a toe off.

It's interesting, isn't it, how many things that we don't really think about are related to heavy bleeding/anemia/general ill health. Looking back, I can see when the problems started, but life was happening around me and I didn't really take notice until it was so bad that it couldn't be ignored. Once the bleeding took over my life, I had to do something or go under. Now that I'm not bleeding to death, as you said, I'm feeling myself come alive! I'm bruised and beaten, yes, but I feel more interested in life than I have for about five years! I'm looking forward to the energy boost that I know is in my future, as I still tire easily.

I'd never let my DH come near my toes either!

My DH is really good at giving pedicures! He's a little too enthusiastic, but since he always keeps his own nails nice I let him at mine sometimes. Usually it's when I don't want to deal with a nail that's giving me problems. He's gotten gentler over the years, or maybe it's just that I've gotten more trusting.
And, come to think of it, my toenails are long too! I haven't been wearing "real" shoes very much - just going barefoot or wearing slippers around the house - so haven't paid much attention.
Mmmm....DH, what are you doing tonight? Want to trim my nails?

Hmmmm...maybe one of these days I'll give my DH a chance to give me a pedicure after all. BUT, I'll make sure he has his glasses on! :eyes:
It would be nice to have a foot massage along with the nail clipping!!!!
Hope I can relax during the "procedure."
