Vitamins?

Hello Sisters:
I recall people mentioning the different supplements they were on and I was most curious about the Calcium. I recall something about more magnesium etc. Currently I am taking the kind that is chewable...(I tend to have some difficulty swallowing the other type) but I don't think it is giving me enough of what I need for the leg cramps.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Vitamins?

Hi --

I'm wondering how many of the chewable calcium's are you taking a day? My doc told me I'd have to eat 3 of those a day (spread out over the course of the day, not all at once) to get enough calcium per day. Cost-wise, it seemed like the chewable ones (like Viactive) were going to be way more $$$ than tablets so I stick to tablets (and my tablets are 600 mg and my doc told me to take 2 per day, one in the a.m and one in the p.m.)

Good luck!

Vitamins?

My family Dr. prescribed Quinine pills for my leg cramps and I only had to use them for 5 days and the cramps stopped.

Vitamins?

I feel like i'm living in a vitamin shop myself

my Doc put me on Iron supplements, told me to take vitamin c with it to help with absorption,
also on vitamin e
calcium with vitamin D
and a multi vitamin

my doc said leg cramps usually mean not enough potassium,
so io make sure i eat bananas
and i have potassium pills too- just in case, but so far i haven't had a problem.......

hope this helps,
Kerri

Vitamins?

HI,
my DR put me on Caltrate 600+soy for menopausal health...i take one in the morning and one at night...it is a calcium supplement with soy isoflavins and vitamin D.....
believe it or not it really helps with menopause symptoms...at least for me...i ran out of it for about a week and the crying and mood swings came back with a vengence....i also drink 2-3 glasses of milk a day...
it is true that the leg cramps come from low potassium especially if your taking lasix....i had that problem as well..
hope this helps you some.............good luck....

Vitamins?

Hi!

I just take plain old Centrum multi-vitamin and also Viactive Calcium chews. Yes, they're more expensive, but they also give me a little bite of chocolate that curbs the craving for sweets (which since I've been in the hospital has been non-existant! ) So I don't mind the expense. They are nice, though. I would stay away from the orange cream ones...they're yucky!

Take care,

I knew you would come through for me! Thanks so much for the advice. I had forgotten about the and the potassium. I thought it might still be related to the surgery but at this point I will try almost anything!
The turn-around time from this website is fabulous! Thank you again for your help and best of luck with your recoveries!

Vitamins?

This post caught my eye. I've always felt and looked younger than my 40 yrs without supplements but seemed to age 10 years after my operation. My friend told me about a supplement she was taking and I thought " Well you have nothing to lose !"" I tried it and can't believe the difference it has made to my life. Now 4 months after my operation - I frequently think - What op !. I know we are not allowed to market any particular product on this website and I don't want to sound like an info commercial so if you're interested and would like further info please e-mail me directly for more details.

May God bless you all !!!

Vitamins?

When I have leg cramps, I drink a glass of Tonic Water (in the pop aisle, but it's near the ginger ale and seltzer) because it contains Quinine. Always seems to help. Since Tonic Water by itself is somewhat boring, I generally splash a little lemon juice in it. This is a remedy that many women in my family use, some of which are in their 80s and they've been doing it for years.
