Uterine biopsy

On Tuesday my OBGYN wants me to have a uterine biopsy before having my hysterectomy on the 21st.
How painful is this going to be and should I be very concerned?
I suffer from adenomyosis and my papsmear came up with endo shedding in the cervix.

Thanks.

Uterine biopsy

Chana, I had several uterine biopsies. I experienced a sharp cramping sensation at the moment when the biopsy was taken, and had some spotting afterwards. It was a bit painful, but only for a moment.

Ask your doctor about taking a dose of ibuprofen before the procedure. My doc recommended this with my last uterine biopsy, and it really helped.

Best wishes,
Helen

Uterine biopsy

Hi, I had a biospy, D&C and hysteroscopy , all at the same time. It was done as an out patient and only took about 30 minutes. I was sent home with pain meds that I only needed for the first day. After that I took tylenol as needed - a couple more days. I did have some bleeding but my dr said it was mainly from the D&C.

Best wishes, please let us know how you're doing when you get a chance.

Uterine biopsy

Hi Chana,
I had a biopsy recently and it wasn't too bad. Cramping and if I would have taken a ibuprofen it may have helped, but honestly it was over so quick it wasn't that big of a deal. Little bit of spotting after, just a mini pad was fine.
My surgery is 7/21/04 too. I will be thinking good thoughts for you!

Uterine biopsy

I had a uterine biopsy done, and I would describe the sensation as a light to medium labor contraction (not a hard labor pain). The good news is that it only lasts a couple of seconds, and then it's gone. The nurse told me it is important to keep breathing, as the pain will be worse if you hold your breath. So keep that in mind. It will be over very quickly, and you CAN tolerate it. (((HUGS)))

Uterine biopsy

I took 2 Aleve (on the advice of my doctor) and was fine. Very slight cramping, but that was it. If my doctor hadn't been talking his way through everything, I might not have known he was doing it. Although, compared to having my cervix pulled down with a tennaculum (sp?) two days earlier, this was nothing!

Uterine biopsy

my doctor had a HORRIBLE time getting my biopsy done. my cervix was so inflamed she couldn't get the instrument through. even a smaller one was very painful.

she should have given me a local or something for the pain. it took a little over an hour.

everyone had told me they were a piece of cake. i thought something must be horribly wrong that mine hurt so much.

i bled alot and was in pain for 3 days even with meds.

i was surprised at how poorly it went so it all seemed so much worse and scary.

i don't want to scare you. i just want you to know that it can go differently and not to think something is horribly wrong with you if yours isn't easy.

i got sick of people saying "what's wrong?! i had a biopsy. it was no big deal."

mine was not a huge deal, but it wasn't a walk in the park either.

i was also very anemic and the pathology report after surgery detected abnormalities in my cervix that probably contributed to the bad experience.

everyone else i've met who had one said it went fine.

i hope you are in that category when it's all said and done, but don't be afraid and call your doctor if things are difficult.

peace and wellness,

Uterine biopsy

Hi,
I think the biopsies are routine for some doctors. I had one back in January due to heavy bleeding. It was negative, but my blood count was really low, so I went on iron therapy until my surgery was scheduled.
I've had two biopsies. The first was about 10 years ago when I started having clotting problems and I don't remember it being very traumatic. The one is Jan. felt like about a 20 second BIG cramp. My doc said to count to 10 and it would be over. It was more intense than I remember the first one, so I counted to ten really fast (like that would make it be over!). My doctor smiled and said , "Count to 10 again!" I spotted a little afterward and felt slightly crampy for a couple of hours.
The idea of taking a pain medication before sounds good!

I had that once. I remember it being painful but only for a few seconds. I had some spotting afterwards.
