Scared to Death about Pre-Op Appt

Hi! I have my pre-op appt in 2 days and I'm really worried about it. I have to have an exam by my dr that consists of tugging on my cervix to see if it will come down and dialate..........OUCH? It is apparently necessary in order to determine if my surgery can be preformed completely vaginally. As if the surgery isn't scarey enough, now I have to worry about this. Has anyone else gone through this exam?

Scared to Death about Pre-Op Appt

I remember the cervical tug my dr. used on me before my TVH and it wasn't really a big deal at all. The dr. uses a special instrument to do a cervical "pull" to see how lose or tight the ligaments are and if you would be a candidate for a vaginal hysterectomy. I personally had 3 vaginal deliveries so my ligaments were lose enough for a vaginal hysterctomy. If you have any bladder issues such as incontinence, incomplete emptying, or are concerned you may want to consult with a urogyn or urologist. They can give you more info or help you with your concerns. I saw a urologist prior to my surgery and my bladder problems resolved because the uterus was one of the causes of my bladder troubles. I also kept my ovaries and have had no problems. My dr. warned me that I could have some bleeding after the cervical pull and I did but I was also on the last days of Aunt flo so I had some pads with me anyway. I would recommend you take one with you just in case you have some minor bleeding after the procedure. It really didn't hurt me but if you are worried a motrin before the procedure wouldn't hurt.
