Update...cystometrics?
Hi everyone,
Well I went to my gyno today. He did a pelvic and had me cough and said everything looked okay. He took a slide and said I have yeast and some bacterial vaginosis. I have to go back in 2 weeks for 2 tests that will take an hour. I am not sure what they are but he mentioned catheters, q-tips etc Something about cystometrics? I am scared to death now. He is checking for a fistula or whether my leaking is coming from my vagina. I do not think it is urine but who knows. Has anyone ever heard of this test? If so what does it involve? He said I would have to have an IVP if inclusive. Not looking forward to that though I want this over with soon!

Update...cystometrics?
Hi Tracee,
Haven't heard of cystometrics but I had a cystogram, I am wondering if it is the same thing as it did involve a catheter. What they did was insert a foley catheter into the urethra and gently fill the bladder with a liquid which had a dye in it. Then they took a scan of the bladder holding the liquid, I could see it on the screen, and it possibly shows any dye leaking down the vagina. In may case it didn't show up anything so it is not conclusive. It didn't hurt, just a bit uncomfortable having a catheter inserted and 'holding on' but I was allowed to go to the toilet soon afterwards.
That is the only test I had apart from the IVP which also didn't show anything and the cystoscopy which didn't show the fistula either! But we knew it was there as I was leaking!!
Good luck for the tests. If you are really scared why not ring the Dr's office and have an explanation about the tests and what is involved? It would save you worrying beforehand.

Hi Blossom :)
Thank you so much for your support ) Yes, I think I am going to give him a call. I just read something about the bladder test making you nauseous (sp) when your bladder fills and I cannot get sick! I have had a phobia for 34 years...but that is a whole other story LOL. I will keep you posted. Thanks again

Update...cystometrics?
Simple Cystometrics is a test to determine when/if youre leaking and what kinds of stresses cause a leak...its done with a simple catheter being inserted into the bladder...a saline solution/sterile water is slowly put into the bladder via the catheter and the patient is to tell the dr/nurse when the urge to urinate arises..then when the urge to urinate is strong...then when the urge is so strong that the patient can no longer "hold it"...the dr/nurse will take note of the results (its also usually printed on an ekg type of strip paper...once the bladder is full the patient is given a pad to place between the legs and is asked to stand, cough, jump, and possibly wash hands (this sometimes triggers a bladder response)..the dr again will record whether there are any leaks...after the test is complete the catheter is removed and the patient is asked to void in a toilet that will record amount that is voided...the results are usually discussed immediately afterwards.

Hi dg
Thank you for writing. That does not sound too bad He mentioned also something with some type of q-tip test. Not sure what that is either. Did you have it done? Did you get nausous (sp) at all? Thank you again

Update...cystometrics?
i had the cystometrics test done...was nothing to it other than if youre at all modest then it might be a bit embarrassing..it took about 20 minutes, give or take, to complete......the q-tip test is to determine if there is urethral prolapse i believe...a q-tip is inserted in the urethra and the patient is asked to cough, bear down, etc....if the q-tip changes angles during the coughing, etc, this will show if the urethra is involved....
"Q tip test - helps to diagnose urethral mobility - place q tip with xylocaine jelly into the urethra till it is in the bladder, then withdraw to the voluntary musculature of the urethra - have the patient strain and if the q tip moves more than 30 degrees, this demonstrates urethral mobility which is often present in stress incontinence."--taken from a medical source.
As far as nausea is concerned, I didnt experience any nausea. I'm not real sure as to why this might even be a side-effect. The only thing I found bothersome about the test is having the sensation of a full bladder w/o being able to void immediately.
