testosterone dosage???

Hello all,
I was just wondering about any info regarding the use of testosterone. I just got back some lab that said my level was zero. The doc wants to put me on some cream. He ordered a 2% cream - 1ml everyday on inner thigh. That comes to about 20 mg a dose. My compounding pharmacist says he feels this is way too high. Any feedback would be appreciated.

testosterone dosage???

Hi

Are you sure the dose is 1 ml, not 0.1 ml? My prescription is for 0.1 to 0.2 ml of a 1% cream. I used a dose midway between the two for about a month before backing off, waaaaaaaay off, and went to using a small amount just a few times a week.

I'd be inclined to listen to your compounding pharmacist on this one as they're pretty well educated about dosing. Let your doctor know what the compounding pharmacist said and see if you can get them to agree on the right dose for you.

testosterone dosage???

Deb,
The 1ml sounds very high to me. I've also used a 2% testosterone cream but my instructions were to use .25ml 1x per day for the first few weeks, than every other day and than a few times a week. The .25 is literally a dab, as in "a little dab will do ya' "

testosterone dosage???

my doctor just prescribed the 2% testosterone cream. the dosage is 1/4 teaspoon for two weeks applied to the labia and around the clitoris. i am suppose to check back in after this time period and review my progress. also the compounding pharmacist gave me a book to read on bioidentical hormones and i also bought "the hormone solution by dr. erika schwartz" i found it very informative and am hoping to change to bioidentical hormones. this may or may not apply to you and the pharmacist advised me on the dosage as well...so ask all the questions you need to.
good luck

testosterone dosage???

I had a phone consult today with the doctor mentioned above (who wrote the book) and she prescribed .6 bio-testosterone in a cream, (apply 3 times a week). I am already using her bio- estrogen (whichshe bumped to .6), and progesterone (she bumped to 200mg) both of those are daily. I asked if I needed a free testosterone blood work up first, and she said no. She also PROMISED I would NOT grow a beard ! he he

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I have a call into the Dr. to double check the dosage. But now his nurse is mentioning progesterone too.
Oh Well it truly is a jungle!
