excessive post-op vaginal bleeding

Hi Sisters,
I am currently 2 weeks post-op for a TAH. This is my first time posting and I thought sharing the complications to my surgery may help some of you.
My TAH was on November 16, 2000 for severe menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea with no relief from years Ifinally decided to have the surgery (keeping my ovaries)thinking that being only 35 I would recover quickly. Sorry, no cigar. One week post-op I developed some heavy vaginal bleeding. How ironic. Isn't that why I had the operation? Anyway, an ultrasound was performed and a blood clot the size of an orange was found above the vaginal cuff and it was leaking down through the stitches at the closing off at the top of the vagina. Luckly, the clot is localized and I am not bleeding internally. The thing was, from the first day after surgery I kept complaining of horrible back pain and everyone said "oh it is probably just the way your body was positioned on the operating table". HELLO!!! it is a week later. I am no longer on any table and my back was killing me. It was finally determined by the ultrasound that the blood clot was on a nerve that was causing pain in my lower back. My Dr. assured my that this was not an uncommon complication and that he would do another ultrasound in two weeks to make sure clot was shrinking. I am also on a ten day course of antibiotics. With me, if it can go wrong, it does.
I have been having good days and bad days lately. Alittle weepy today wishing I could help my husband and son hang the christmas lights outside but I still have so little energy. When WILL it return?????????
I hope to hear back from some of you. It really does help to know someone is feeling just the way I am.
Talk with you soon.

I know your pain

Hi,
I am almost 5 weeks post op, and doing well now, However the day after I came home from the hospital I was taken back to e.r. due to severe pain and burning in the staples,
and fever. turns out I had an infection in the wound sight.
I was in the hospital another four days recieving antibiotics. All I wanted to do was go home. Finally I came home. My incision had been reopened by the docter so that all of this infection could drain, What a mess, I actually had to send my husband out to buy pads. and ended wearing one regular and one across the incision. I thought I would be over all of the pad and tampon stuff, go figure.
anyway my point is that it will get better, I am fine now back to work and almost everything. and you will be too, just don't push it. Take your time and heal. rest is important. go slow because it really is o.k. to just take care of you know. You will be back in the rat race soon enough, so take care of you, and have a great Christmas.

excessive post-op vaginal bleeding

Hi Beth,

I had clot at top of vagina at 2-1/2 weeks post-TVH. My doc chose to drain it thru quick vaginal surgery. Here is a link to the whole story: http://www.hystersisters.com/tstory.php

I hope you get some relief soon.

Sending cyberhugs,

excessive post-op vaginal bleeding

Hi Beth. I hope you're feeling better today. Read Twyla's story, and watch for any signs of change (fever, heavy bleeding, pain, etc.). I'd hate to see you go through what Twyla did. I saw in your profile that you're from RI. I live in Hope. Feel free to email me -- we can compare notes. Best wishes,
