appropriate exercise post op

Hi ladies -

Okay, I've had my feet up for a while, and doing way more snacking than usual, which is adding to my waistline. I'm ready to get out and move.

I was cleared during my 4-week post op check up for all exercise EXCEPT for sit-ups and anything with heavy lifting ....light hand weights are okay. I was also cleared for swimming and sex too.

I've been doing some gentle swimming, mostly paddling back and forth...nothing very strenuous. I find it more comfortable than walking, but I also don't feel like I'm getting much exercise.

What exercise have post op princesses been doing? I don't want to chance damaging anything. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I'd like to know when it is ok to use my excersise bike?

At 2 weeks my doctor cleared me for walking and doing the stair stepper very slowly. At 4 weeks I was back to just walking (making sure to do that slowly too - I had a stitch shift). Overall, my doctor said the best thing I can do post op is walk.

appropriate exercise post op

at two weeks i started walking slowly between 1-2 hours a day. we live in a coastal city so i try and head uphill for the first part of the walk and have the downhill on the way home. i don't walk fast, more of an amble and i have a walking stick that i can lean on if i get gas cramps or muscle spasms. if i start getting the spasms i know it is time to get home.

last night i got a dog. she is an older rescue animal and moves even slower than i, so she will be accompanying me on my walks as she needs to lose quite a bit of weight.

the rest of my excercise has been to slowly add back to my household routine. i haven't gotten to the heavy duty floor cleaning, but am back to the dishes and the cooking.

the only other aspect is to schedule time every day to enjoy the sunshine...it is a rare summer treat here, we get lots of summer fog, so i do anything i can outdoors for at least an additional hour.

can't swim yet but am wearing my swimsuit, i am of the fluffy variety and my sppedo helps hold in my swelly belly and allows me to comfortably wear my jeans. (more room in them since they removed the volleyball)

i enjoy hearing what others are doing as far as excercise.
