Driving After TVH

I'm curious about how long I will have to wait to drive after TVH? I know that everyone's different and different Dr.'s have different instructions, but I would sure appreciate your experiences. Thanks

Driving After TVH

i was allowed to drive 2 weeks post-op.....the criteria is uaually being off narcotic pain meds and being able to press the brake firmly/quickly w/o too much discomfort...Remember that most auto insurance companies have their own criteria for driving after surgery so you might want to check with your insurer.

Driving After TVH

i am 19 days past my sah/bso and will only drive short distances if absolutly necessary. I get extremely sore as a passanger if we go for a drive that takes about a day to get over. I seem to be able to walk almost normally just a little slow and can make it to the market, the p.o and the library by foot easier than by car.

you hit it right on the head when you said everyone is different, also circumstances are different and if i had to deive, i would probably be doing more.

Driving After TVH

I had an LAVH and my doc game me my wheels back at my 1 week checkup. I am off the Rx pain killers. I wouldn't risk driving while still taking pain meds stronger than IB or Tylenol.

Driving After TVH

I had a TVH/BSO on Monday, came home Tuesday and took my first drive on Friday. It was a very short drive, but it was no problem. On Saturday, I took my daughter shopping and drove around town. I go back to work in my 3rd week and have a 45-minute commute each way. You might want to get a donut pillow - after a TVH your bottom will be a little tender. (Well... a lot tender!!) The donut pillow will take some of the pressure off. I was totally off pain meds by Thursday and I'm doing great. You should obviously not drive while on narcotics!

Good luck with your surgery! I'm so glad I had mine done vaginally - it really cuts down on your recovery time. I still can't lift anything or move very quickly, but everything else is working great!!

Love,

Michelle

Driving After TVH

When I asked my Dr when I could drive he said as soon as I felt like I could slam on the brakes without hurting anything inside. I was not on narcotic pain killers, so I didn't have that issue, but I was tired and wouldn't drive until I felt totally aware. I think I started to drive about a week and a half after.

Thanks for your replies! I am glad I am able to have my surgery vaginally, although I don't understand, not one little bit, how they get in there! But I'm not the Dr.

Driving After TVH

I had a TAH, BSO vertical incision on July 7th. I've only taken advil since I'm home. I had no discomfort on the ride home only a little pain lifting legs into car and getting out.

DH took me to super Walmart on the 11th and knew I would have no problem driving after that trip. Friday I drove into town and ran a few errands. Saturday I drove to a dance demo at the opening of a senior center and came home soooo rejuvinated.

I consider myself very lucky. I know everyone does heal differently. I just wanted to share a positive experience with you.

Be good to yourself.

Driving After TVH

Hi,
I had a TVH with bladder and rectal repairs. My doc "SAID" I could drive after 1 week, but I did not feel ready. I waited until after my 3 week check up and had no problems at all. I probably could have driven earlier.
