Had hyst on July 6

Hi. I had my hysterectomy almost 2 weeks ago. The surgery went well, took 2.5 hours, had scar tissue and a little more blood loss than they were expecting. My problems were longggggggg periods, heavy bleeding, enlarged uterus and fibroids. Had D&C about 1.5 years earlier and it helped for a while.

Here's my take on what has happened so far..... I think we should get 4 days in the hospital, all I know is that I did not feel like I should have come home when I did. All I want to do is sleep, sleep, sleep and it just doesn't happen. I am up moving around now, (made dinner the last 2 nights, doing a few things around the house), and I hurt after a while, so I think, "great, I will go sit down and fall asleep".. no, isn't happening. The last 2 nights I actually slept in my bed.....until 3:30, then I'm up and I sleep in the recliner.. I can't wait to sleep on my side or on my belly. I'm handling the surgery pretty well, I had 2 previous c sections, the last one being 9 years ago.

Happy healing!

Hello scoopergal

When I went for my pre-op on 7/15 my doctor told me I would be in the hospital Tue, Wed, and possibly coming home on Thurs, but only if I was doing really well, otherwise I won't be leaving until Friday. I am kinda hoping for Thurs.

You take care of yourself and don't overdue it and good luck with your recovery.

I had sx on July 7th, my first. Had three normal deliveries, my baby is 26. I've have been doing exercise religiously for many years, joined curves last September and lost 30# doing Weight Watchers. My recovery has been very rapid, my incision is a thin light pink line. I give a lot of credit to being in the best of shape and on the thin side before surgery. I know I have been very lucky.

Sleeping is better if I have heavy carbs before bedtime, I'm now trying to take only a 10 minute catnap in the recliner during the afternoon. Last night I walked a mile to insure my being tired.
Slept very well and today I didn't even need to take an advil.

I purchased a microwavable clay heating pad at Walmart that I place under my belly when I lie on my side. That seems to have helped.

Wish you a speedy recovery and a good night's sleep.

Welcome to Post-op!

Now is the time to get as much rest and pampering as you can. Drink plenty of water and take some short walks around the house to help prevent blood clots.

My surgery was on the 6th too!!!

So that was Tuesday morning and I came home Friday afternoon. The doc kind of gave me the choice of Thursday or Friday release, but I was was so groggy from drugs he asked, "How old are your four children?" And when I answered he said I should stay in the hospital until Friday.

After four C-sections I thought this would be easier, but I'm still having trouble sleeping; finally got through some tough constipation; weird groin pain; and the world seems so foggy and confusing. Like I'm not able to keep up, everything moves too fast. I see my Doc on Friday and will try to figure out why I'm so weak and confused. But I am only taking ibuprofin for pain now, I think the Tylenol 3 was adding to my bowel malfuntion. Better now. But sleeping is difficult, I'm tired of being on my back.

Hello! Thanks for the reply back. I had a slight fever when I came home (105.0) and they don't want to worry about it until it is 102. I just really felt I would've done better for another day. Like you I am tired of sleeping on my back. I know it will get better, actually I feel better every other day it seems like. I had 2 c sections and I don't really remember it feeling like all of this. (The last c section was over 9 years ago though). Its probably an aging thing.lol

I've cut down on the meds, only taking it when I think I really need it. I think when I start doing a little more around the house, I might take something ( Motrin or Percoset). About the constipation, oh my! That was rough. lol

Thanks for all of the replies so far!
