toilet handles

Hi Ladies,
I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. And I survived! Biggest advice I can give is to take it easy afterwards. Everytime I overdue I pay the price. Before surgery sign up for Netflix at least for a month. For $50 you can have all the movies you want for a month and keep 8 at a time. Go get books you like to read and magazines. My other jewel is get toilet handles. When I was in the hospital and they finally took the catather out I went to the toilet they had these great handles that made it so easy to get on and off the toilet. A very dear friend went to a used medical equipment place by the hospital in town and bought some for me. They are adjustable and made things so much easier. Also as you go through the poo poo stage (constipation and then diarhea) they are great to hold on to. By the way no one mentioned the constipation to me. I have never been constipated before in my life so it never entered my mind. They were giving me stool softners in the hospital but never said anything when I left. Three days later I understood the saying "#$% a brick" If I had it to do over again I would have taken a very small dose of the senna laxative when I got home so that I did not get to the point that I did. When I called the Dr. in total pain from being constipated he told me to get Senacot. They didn't have that brand but had the store brand of Senna laxative. It did the trick but I suffered alot. There's my two cents. Good Luck to you all!

toilet handles

I was just wondering about that. The bathroom which I'll use most during recovery is kind of, well, difficult -- it's a 1/2 bath and there's nothing to grab onto . I'm actually more worried about being able to stand up, so I was just going to put a stepstool in there so I'd have something to grab when sitting and standing. Do you think that might work as well?

toilet handles

It might. I'm jsut sold on these handles because you can use your arms to lower yourself on the toilet and to push yourself up. I don't think they were very expensive and I will sell them back when I'm done.

I mostly used the bathroom in the lower level of my house, since that's where I spent most of my time. It was a small half bath, so I would just leave the door open, grab the door frame, and pull myself up. It did the trick for me. LOL
