hot flashes after 17 years

here's one for you experts to explain...

my girlfriend had a tah (ovaries out) when she was 33... she's taken the exact same dose and type of estrogen since and at 50 started having hot flashes...

how is that possible with no ovaries? did her body somehow know it was time to go through menopause even though she, basically, already went through it 17 years prior?

please help

Has she been under any stress? Been sick? Any changes to her routine or meds? Hormonal balance is a delicate balance and there are many things, including life stresses that can upset the balance. Hot flashes can be a sign of a fluctuation in your hormonal levels as well as they can be from a deficiency.

Is she having any other symptoms? A thyroid imbalance can cause increased perspiration, which can resemble a hot flash.

Hi,

The dr I go to has explained to me that having hot flashes does not necessarily mean you are low on estrogen, but it can mean an imbalance of hormones and we have other hormones too, other than estrogen. I was tested and showed estrogen dominance and had hot flashes. That explains why upping estrogen and having hot flashes sometimes does not work. There could be other hormones that need to be checked. As I have been off of estrogen my hot flashes are getting better. I also am on progesterone to balance the too much estrogen.

Sometimes it takes a dr who understands all the hormones and how they work together to help find ones balance.
