GOOD memories from Hospital???

Hi. Have read a post or two about "bad" experiences with their Hospitalizations. I just started working twelve hour shifts (I'm an RN) at a Hospital after being out of the hospital setting for 10 years. I'm working Post Partum and we get lots of C-section Moms and yes, even some Hysterectomy patients.. So far, I feel I have been SOOO sympathetic to all these gals, as the whole experience is fresh in my memory!! I'm sure I'm the QUICKEST nurse on the Pain Meds on the whole floor!! I would just DIE before I let my patient lay there and suffer for even TEN minutes!! I am so sorry some of you had such ROTTEN experiences. I did too as far as HOORIBLE pain control, which I don't really blame the nurses as much as my Dr., as they can only give what's been ordered to a degree. Although if one of my patients wasn't being adequately controlled, I would be on the PHONE with the Dr. and TRY to get something else ordered for sure.. Anyway,, Does anyone have any GOOD memories of a particular Nurse or Hospital employee that sticks out in their minds as far as EXTRA special care they felt they recieved.??. This could help me too in my new job as I want to be as caring a nurse as I can be!! Thanks... Kathie

Good Memories

Hi
I'm 3 weeks post-op tah/bso and I found my hospital experience overall to be a good one. I only had one nurse who seemed too rushed and unhappy to be very responsive, but everyone has a bad day now and then. The nurse I had during most of the day hours was just great, so efficient yet very sympathetic and I found most of them had a sense of humor which I really needed. Surprisingly I had a couple of male nurses who were just wonderful and seemed almost to know how I was feeling. Nurses don't have an easy job and it must be very hard to always have a smile and be cheerful and totally attentive at all times. All those needy people!! I did learn that I needed to speak up on my own behalf after that 1st day if I was in pain but there we're always right there if I rang. Nurses are the BEST!!
Thanks for all you do.

GOOD memories from Hospital???

My favorite nurse was the one who always looked like she was glad to see me. The other nurses always looked distracted or rushed and I always felt like a whiner if I asked for anything. My favorite nurse always asked me before I could ask. She was very intuitive to simple needs - things like ice chips, a clean gown, or just moving my flowers where I could see them better. She was very thoughtful.

I noticed once I was up and walking around that she was always going from room to room while the other nurses were at the desk griping about something. I felt sorry for them because you could tell they weren't happy with their job.

I nominated her as a superstar on that floor - she was great.

Little things do mean alot. I hope people who had positive experiences remember to thank those who were responsible.

GOOD memories from Hospital???

I had a good experience in the hospital. My day nurse brought me a Krispy Kreme donut the day after my surgery. She had a fantastic sense of humor which could be a bad thing when you just had abdominal surgery She mad me laugh a lot than I had to curse her for making me hurt. The night nurses were johny on the spot with pain meds. I was on the maternity ward in the EXACT same room I was in when I had my daughter 10 years ago. I didn't mind being in the maternity ward cause I got a private room and I am not sorry at all that I don't have a uterus anymore. I have my 2 kids, had my tubes tide, I was done with it.
All in all it wasn't bad!

GOOD memories from Hospital???

When I went into the hospital for my 3rd c-section, I told the doctor to cut, tie, OBLITERATE those tubes, I was DONE with abdominal surgeries for a while. After, I could feel where my tubes were before he burned and cut them and it hurt. I remember this little bitty nurse, maybe 5 feet tall and about 95 pounds soaking wet coming into my room and demonstrating how she "ran around like a little chihuahua" all hunched over and baby stepped while she ran across my room-made me crack up!!! Hurt to laugh but felt soooooo good!!!!

GOOD memories from Hospital???

i had great care from everyone in the hospital, from housekeeping on up. i might not have liked that the nurses kept coming in all night to check on me!!, but they were all very sweet and kind. so even though the experience itself wasn't very pleasant, my hospital care was very, very good.

em.

ps a big to all the health-care professionals out there!

GOOD memories from Hospital???

My nurses were absolutely wonderful. ( I can't say much for the kitchen staff who gave me solid food my first day after surgery when my doctor specifically ordered liquids!) My nurses listened with sympathy to my fears about gaining weight, my bladder falling, etc. They had the yucky job of having to make sure I got up every few hours and taking me to the bathroom so they could measure my urine output. My last night, I simply could not sleep, and about once every hour, or maybe it was 30 min, I had to get up to "tinkle". Never once did a single nurse complain. I refer to my hospital stay as a hotel stay because the room service was so fantastic!

My mom had been in the hospital just a few months before in our hometown and her care was horrible on the Critical Care Unit floor, even though her needs were so much more urgent. I've been glad to tell my friends about how nice the ladies of the hospital in Tulsa were because those folks were amazing!

GOOD memories from Hospital???

I was in a surgical hospital as the other two hospitals in my town don't take Kaiser ins. I had heard good things about it, and I have to say that I was taken care of VERY well. My room was right across from the nurses station, and I was sharing with another woman who had just had a vag hyst. The nurses and assts were very responsive. When I pushed the call button, they came within seconds. The food was GREAT (what I was able to eat), the tray came with fresh flowers every meal in a cute little vase, the whole hospital was very nice. It was very small; I think there were only about 10 rooms, and I think only a few were occupied (most people were in n out in the same day I heard). I felt like they were well staffed. One thing that I had heard about it was that many of the nurses at the other local hospitals were overworked and understaffed, so they moved to this one. Apparently they have very high quality nurses, as they basically have their choice of the nurses in town. The one odd thing is that it felt "elitist". I have to say that I am a very down-to-earth person, not elitist at all, and that felt a bit wierd. I felt like I had such great care, and I felt bad that people at the other hospitals in town don't get that. (I have a friend who visited me several times who had a TAH-BSO about 2 yrs ago at one of the other hospitals, and she was VERY impressed--nothing like her stay). Anyway, my stay was great, and I guess my opinion overall is that I wish nurses weren't so overworked that they could give everyone the treatment I received. (My ins. also paid greatly for my service: $52,000 for 2.5 days). Also, I'm glad that we don't have a Kaiser hospital locally yet (about 5 more years) as I hear they aren't very good.

yes good memories

Hi,
Yes, I did have some good memories. I had to stay by myself the night I was there. I was in a semi private room. The nurses came in and checked on me. Talked to me..made me feel as good as possible...then when I had enough of being on my butt and lying in bed, I called and the head nurse came in and helped me get up and sit up in a chair and walk around the bed. I was so grateful..Then of all surprizes...one of the RN's heard me talk and came in the room..She said I know you don't remember me my name is Secara..I am one of your former students...she and I reminised for a while. Then she'd pop in and ask if I still did certain things she remembered. This made my hospital stay much better. Thank you Donna
