5 days post op - weakness question

I had my SAH on Monday July 19th with general anesthesia. The surgery took about 2 hours, mainly due to a very large fibroid. As my dr put it "my fibroid had a uterus" rather than my uterus having a fibroid. Right now I am not taking much in the way of pain meds, 1 percocet at bedtime last night and 400 mg ibuprofen at 8:30 am this morning. I am of course somewhat sore and stiff. But my main concern is how weak and tired I am feeling. It is probably very normal, but it would be great to hear from some of you ladies who have already been here. My weakness is such that just lifting a glass and setting it down is a chore, when the glass almost touches the table to set it down I feel like my hand will drop it. What causes this weakness? Is it the general anesthesia or the stress on the body from having had major surgery? How long has this feeling lasted for others? And what has helped you to get past this stage?

Thanks to all of you who prayed for me earlier this week. I'm glad to be on the other side now.

5 days post op - weakness question

Hello Jonna,

The best person to ask if your doctor.

Some women are very weak from loss of blood (anemia), others don't handle anesthesia well, plus surgery, anesthesia, and drugs are a HUGE assault on your body.

Like I said, if your concerns are great and to be on the safe side of things, I would definately call your doctor's office to be certain you don't need any post-op bloodwork. Some women end up taking iron to build their strength back up.

Take care and hope you feel better!

Jackie
