peed on myself 3x today, humbled

Because I had a Radical hyst with lymph node dissection, I've got a foley catheter in for 3 weeks due to extensive bladder manipulation and healing required. I've been feeling down from the mental aspects of this surgery, but I have been humbled beyond belief today.

Today I woke up in a pool of pee, and had to clean it all up myself. Then I got all clean and while drying myself the tube popped open again, and my leg and bathmat got soaked. Cleaned up again. Came downstairs with fresh clothes, and produced pee leakage from somewhere not in the catheter, soaked my pants. Went to doc's office and found out that the catheter was deflated. Nurse called me a wimp because it stung/burned/hurt when she pulled out the old catheter. Got new catheter "installed". Stood up and put clothes on, only to find out that nurse meanie forgot to close the valve, so I was peeing on my foot and in my shoe.

Boy, what a bad day. This too shall pass, as my mum says.

Oh, you poor dear. I guess that would be a humbling experience. I think sometimes nurses have no compassion for patients. They need to take a reality check and remember that we are people with feelings.

I too came home with a foley. They tore my bladder trying to remove adhesions during surgery. I haven't had any accidents yet, but have horrible thoughts of wetting on myself after they take it out because I'm so used to it being there.

Hang in there!

Rojoju,
As you stated “this to shall pass”. You are an example to all of us, because you didn’t have to share this personal moment with us. I don’t have surgery until August, but with the stories that I read, I am more and more prepared to have it.

the mean nurse.

Not leaving you fully hooked up was unprofessional. You will feel so much better when the catheter comes out. And I think the resting you do cause who wants to do much with you pee purse, will do you good.

HAng in there,

rojoju,
After everything that has happened to me in the past three weeks (TAH and back in castle with hemotoma) I decided the best thing to do is just laugh. My daughter asked me "Mom, is there anyone in this city that hasn't seen your "area"? I just said "well, there are a few, but the way things are going I'm sure before too long everyone will have seen it!" Then laughed. I'm sure there are many women that have had your same problem. Just look at it as another eventful day in your life. It's those days that remind us we are human and can still take on the world!
Thank God we are women! Men could never have this much happen to them and still laugh.
Good Luck to you! All of this makes us stronger!

Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time and that nurse "hatchett" didn't make it much better.

How very unprofessional for a nurse to call you a "wimp", then not complete the procedure correctly, causing you to suffer an indignity. Ack!

Hugs,

Jackie

You know, its her job to care for you while she is assisting the dr. I think I would complain to my dr. You have enough going on in your life without some big meanie to make you feel rotten!
