a bit scared - scan for r/sided pain
went for my ultrascan yesterday for right sided pain (8months post op). I could see on the screen that there was a dark, egg shaped area to the right of my bladder that they kept returning to, measuring, zooming in and around but they wouldn't tell me if it was normal, 'sinister' or anything. Just kept going on like robots saying 'your doc will tell you when we send the results at the end of next week'. It could have been a perfectly healthy something they were just checking but not an clue would they give me. I am trying to be 'sensible' and rational but the waiting is going to be hard. Don't we women do a lot of waiting in a lifetime? I was OK before I went in but I am a quivering wreck inside now - but so cool and sensible on the outside! Don't really know why I am posting other than to share my wait with my sisters as I know noone can tell me just what that dark shape was but my doc and he won't know until friday week. If it is nothing I'll be elated but so angry I've been put through this. If it is something then I'll deal with it but these people need training in attitude. I could have coped with' we think there may be something but the full report will go to your doc' or'we don't think there is anything but the full report will go to your doc' The zombie, robot bit cracked me up. Don't they know they deal with 'real' people not lumps of meat? Thanks for letting me off load. (Sorry for being a misery http://www.hystersisters.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif) Helen

I hope your test comes back normal for you. Unfornuately medical techs are not allowed to give their opinion on what they see. My friend is an ultrasound tech and even though she is highly trained. She is not allowed to give opinions to patients. Dr's get really upset over that. Sometimes they may know what is going on and other times it may be unclear to them. And then you have the insensitive people in the medical field that we could all do without! Good Luck and try not worry http://www.hystersisters.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

{{{{Helen)))),
I don't post here often, but I read the board as often as I can. What a scarey experience for you! I work in the imaging department of a hospital, I do not do U.S. scans. I work in a Pain Clinic and also do diagnostic X-ray on ER patients. I have no idea what the Tech saw, but I think I know why you got robot zombie treatment. It is probably against hospital policy for them to tell you what they see. Where I work, we can be fired for telling a patient what is wrong with them, it is not our "job". However, the Tech could have politely told you that they are not allowed to make a diagnosis to the patient, and they will have to talk to their Dr. I am sorry that you were treated so callously.

a bit scared - scan for r/sided pain
Dear Helen, It's a shame you must wait a week to find out what the scans show or do not show. I'll pray that it is nothing for you to worry about. I'll also pray that God will give you the strength to get through the next week without too much worry.

Don't have any wonderful words of wisdom or advice just wanted you to know that I understand where you are --all the waiting that goes on ---get dr. appt.--get approval for test or surg.---wait for results---wait for approval forany action tht may have to be done---the wait until facitily is available---sheesh sometimes I think it is the waiting that drives you nuts not the pain...I hope everything is well and please make sure you post and let us all know so we won't worry...keep your chin up and know that you have lots of people thinking of you .....Lisa

Helen, while I waited for my biopsy results (took over 10 days!) I thought I would go crazy. Hard to work, sleep, etc. I took up FreeCell. I had never played. I still play it when I need to sit down, and rest for a few minutes. It distracted me lots, when I couldn't concentrate on anything else. I hope this helps. You are in our thoughts and prayers. hugs, Susan
