Diabetes (type 1) and hysterectomy

My surgery is coming up in a week and I am quite nervous. I have type 1 diabetes and am worried about what the anesthesiologist will require me to do with my insulin pump--they usually want it off or turned down, which is bad for my glucose control. Do any of the sisters out there have type 1 diabetes and have gone through AH? Any problems with healing afterwards? I am so worried about complications--all I want is to get through this and go back to work! Thanks much!

Hope This Helps

I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 6 weeks before I found out I needed a hysterectomy (and we are still working on controling it!)

I was told that because surgery is soooo stressful on the body, they will take me off of all medication, monitor my blood glucose and inject me with insulin to keep things under control. I've got to assume they'll probably handle you in a similar way but this is something YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO ADD TO YOUR LIST OF QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DR!

In addtion, I have both my endocrologist and my internist working closely with my gynological oncologist.

Good Luck!
