Good News Today

I went to the oncologist today for a follow up from my silver nitrate procedure. Everything looked good, so no need to do any further treatments.

I don't have to go back to see him again until next year, so I'm FINALLY feeling like I'M REACHING THE END OF THIS!! Yippee to me. LOL

if you had to go to an oncologist, was there cancer? and what is a silver nitrate treatment. i'd give alot not to have to see the gynocological oncologist again for a year. good for you. i get to go every 10 weeks for the first year, and have a cat scan every 6 months, until they are sure the cancer does not come back, i have a 50/50 chance! but i feel good, almost as good as you seem to feel. nice chatting with you. ergib

Good News Today

Thank you all for sharing in my celebration.

Ergib, I had uterine cancer. It was found when I had a fibroid removed. My pathology came back clear last year when I had my hyst, so I didn't need radiation or chemo. I've been seeing my regular gyn every 3 months (now have to start going every 6) and my gyn/onc every 6 (now will go every year). I've had a chest Xray and a mamography earlier this year, both came back clear. I believe they are going to be sending me for a cat scan soon to make sure everything is still ok.

Silver nitrate is what they use to corterize (sp?) when you have granulation. Granulation, as I understand it, occurs when new tissue forms over unhealed scar tissue. My oncologist called it a pollop. They did a biopsy of the tissue they removed and then did the silver nitrate, it burned and was uncomfortable. Causes some cramping for a few hours and then you have this nasty discharge for a week or two. Some women need several treatments of the silver nitrate before the granulation is gone, I was one of the lucky ones that only needed one treatment.

Thanks again to all you lovely ladies for sharing in my good news yesterday.

Mary Ellen
