Patch Allergy?

I had a LAVH on 6/25/2004 and have been on the Estradiol patch since the day after. In the past two weeks or so, the skin underneath become red and inflammed and itchy. It happens everywhere but on my abdomen...doc says could be adhesive, and is changing the patch to another brand in hopes that it helps. Anyone else with this problem?

Thanks!

Patch Allergy?

Hi Kelley.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with the patch. I opted for pills from Day One because I have a tendency toward skin sensitivity/eczema. I have done fine on the pills although they usually must be administered at a higher dose as they are metabolized by the body before they are absorbed.

If you are having success with the patch on your lower abdomen, (without a rash), then it's *probable* that the rash is not an allergy but maybe more of a heat or friction reaction. I am glad you are working with your doctor on this issue. There are lots of hormonal alternatives available to us now

Patch Allergy?

Hi Kelley Which brand of patch were you on? In general, most women seem to have the least incidence of skin reaction from the Vivelle dot; then Climara, Esclim and Alora; then the generics after that.

Your DR may have to write "dispense as written" or "no substitutions" on your prescription; otherwise your insurance company may try to get your pharmacist to substitute the generic rather than give you the name brand patch your DR is specifying.

I hope the new patch works better for you!
s,
-Linda
